Roadside assistance jacked my truck up by this instead of frame. What is this part?

So if I have an issue which one, I know which it is. Plus its a good way to mark them as mine amongst my friend group that uses similar cans. Sometimes we load them all into one truck to make a gas run, and need to identify them.

I suppose that's meant to be a question... If so, then no, I don't. You misunderstood. The factory bottle jack works well but only near the tire under the axle or control arm. It doesn't work on the frame (especially if lifted) because it doesn't extend far enough.

Also, if your goal is to change a tire (like the OP had done) you're doing unnecessary work by jacking up the frame due to suspension articulation.

If I go off-road I either bring a hilift or an aluminum floor jack

I'm surprised no one has asked this question yet...

Why in the name of all that is good and holy was the dude not changing his own tire? A dude calling roadside assistance to change a flat is grounds for man card suspension and retraining.

Haha. Can’t even change your own tire, and you want to blame a tire change for your skid plates falling off?!!!

My factory bottle jack mounts broke the spot weld due to offroad vibrations (lots of whoops and 60mph driving will do that) so i don't carry spare tire tools drving daily. I do carry full tools and a skid jack when offroading.

I'd probably call AAA for something like this too, to be honest.

Meh, I carry a non-stock 20 ton bottle jack all the time. It's the times you don't have it when you need it the most.

Probably true, but my truck isn't a DD, and anywhere it's driven that i don't have my jack and tools I'm minutes from any local tow company and with AAA I'm not a dime out of pocket.

Could be a myriad of reasons. Disabled, was wearing a 3 piece suit, or they simply chose not to.

It's not the cost, it's the time. I can change a flat in the same amount of time it takes to call AAA and relay my membership number to them, let alone the time it takes to get a truck to actually show up.

Those are all invalid excuses. I am 80% disabled from a helicopter crash and I still do my own shit. I changed a flat in my tux on the way to my 2nd wedding. Choosing not to is just lazy.

You guys carry jacks in your trucks. I have my own chase truck that follows me where ever I go.

    Carry on common people.

    Yeah, F that.

I've had a couple blowouts in a trailer, and I punched a hole in a BFG m/t that I tried (unsuccessfully) to plug many years ago. I was able to limp it to a tire shop and get it replaced (good thing, I didn't have a spare at the time!).

I think I had my trailer tire replaced within 5-10 minutes. And that included getting the kids/car seat out of the back seat so I could get to the jack and tools.

For a flat tire? Even for my work truck I'm going to change it. It's an absolute waste of my time (and everyone else involved) to sit there for 2 hours waiting for a tow truck to do something that will take me 10 minutes to do myself.

I'm salary, and i don't report to anyone. I can do my job from my couch, the side of the road, or the office.

Of course, if i wanted to be somewhere i'd just change it myself. But i'd have to REALLY want to be there lol
