    Hey all,
I've been pulling an Rpod trailer for ~500 miles with my '17 TRDOR and I just arrived in Park City, UT. Unhitched and went to the store and am hearing grinding/groaning noise from the left rear wheel. It is definitely speed dependent. Lifted that wheel clear of the ground and spun it by hand, no noise heard. It has gotten progressively worse in the last 20 miles. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Wonder if your drum brakes fell apart inside the drum. That would suck. Check to make sure no plastic or anything is stuck under there.

Thanks Smitty. I thought the same but braking is all good, and there's no noise when the wheel is spinning freely in the air or additional noise when braking. I am stumped!

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Feel around on each hub and the rear. If it's grinding something will be hotter than everything else.

Bearing failing at speed under a tow load. Get it replaced. No more towing!

Check with a long skinny metal rod and use it like a stethoscope up against the rear drum backing plate near the bearing, while placing the other end of the rod on your ear.
Maybe the jack tools are handy? Jack the rear end up again if you can (chock the front wheels) and have someone spin the free wheel that's off the ground. You should hear a grinding noise similar to what you heard in the vehicle. The sound will amplify through the rod if the bearing is bad. This is how we would do a quick check on bad bearings when on a lift before.

Thank you much. I can check that in the morning with the jack tools. What I didn't mention was that it is a once per revolution sound, not constant.

Then not likely a bearing. Bearing noise is constant. So you're describing a tick sound?
I was trying to find a YouTube link for you on this redneck stethoscope method.
Check this vid in case you're curious as to what I was talking about. Go to 0:40-1:20 mark to skip the annoying AF host.

    Check your tires also!

    Check when local Stealership opens
You may have to get it towed to the other side of the mountains. Only Toyota Dealerships showing up on google are ~10 to 20 miles West of you it looks like.

Did you say it was a 17 TRDOR? I would head straight to the Toyota dealer. Should be covered under the warranty I would hope.

May not be able to drive it. Probably have to get it towed if it's a bad bearing. He said it's making a lot of noise and getting louder. Of course you know the damn dealer will probably take a day or two to get it fixed. Hope OP wasn't planning on going anywhere for a few days. (Hopefully Park City was his final destination)

Smitty, if you could post up for me I'd appreciate it. I'm in a campground using cellular and it's pretty slow.

It must be Utah. I had a similar thing happen outside of SLC two years ago. Turned out to be rear brake cylinder that was in the process of failing. My brake drum was literally red hot though, so you would know if it was that.
