Actually, now that I look at the pic of them on the truck when I bought it, I think the running boards will fit any DC.

Just found this thread today...sorta new to the whole forum thing but learning fast. I am in Roanoke, Virginia and travel to Stanton, VA for work. I am very interested in hitting some trails this summer in the area. I've done a few over the years (mostly in Craig County), but nothing that was long enough to truly make a day trip out of it. If anyone has any input on good trails nearby please share the goods.

I've had my 2013 tacoma for a couple years now. I'm running 33" terra grapplers with a 3" block lift in the front. I'm purchasing the toytec Boss suspension lift in the next month so I'm wanting to "break it in" I've grown old with the terrible ride compliments of the block lift. I'm in need of a new set of tires, so I figured why not fix the lift too.

    IMG_20141004_193854.jpg
    Mod List (Current):
    17" Rims
    33" Grappler tires
    K&N Cold Air Intake
    Dual exhaust
    Flowmaster 40 series
    CB Radio install
    Side Steps
    Tonneau Bed Cover
12V Aux Cig Outlet in Bed
    Brush Guard with Lights
    Rocker Switch Panel interior
    Wired-In Dash Camera
LED Interior lights / license plate light
    LED under dash/seat Lights
    Rear Passenger Para-cord Handles

    Mod List (Upcoming)
    3" Toytec Boss Lift
    33" Grappler G2
    Baja style front bumper/winch
    Rocker Bars
    Roof Rack (slim)

If anyone needs help with mods or area questions...please ask.

The only worth while trail near Roanoke is Potts mountain. I haven't been yet but am planning a trip there sometime this year. Google the trail to find out more about what you need to get through.

And if you truly want to "hit some trails" not much you are gonna do with that bull bar and 33s, most fun trails I'd recommend are with some armor, I.e sliders, skids, plated armor front and rear, etc. if that's not your thing then any Backwoods fire road will do you just fine, just do some exploring and make a day out of it.

My buddy was telling me all about that one. Theres the jeep trail with all of the obstacles, but the secret is there are go arounds for them. That way if you cant make it you can just go around. I've been all over the forest trails over by pott's mountain shooting range. Nothing to intense, just dirt roads with tons of pot holes. I found one spot off of the road that follows the power line straight up the mountain. I made it up about a half mile before I had to turn. Probably the best "very short" route I found. I printed off all the national forest maps awhile back with the trails, but the catch is trying to find ones that have the gate open. Keep me posted if you find anything worth while near boy. I will say the Broad Run trail in Craig County is probably the most popular one my friends have all done because it is mild with lots of creek crossings. I went back another time when the water level was pretty low and actually drove up the creek bed the whole way which added a much more entertaining challenge to the mix.

I've got the armor coming with the new lift. I've got to stick with the 33's cause it's my DD. The bumper and rock sides are coming. It's all about the money and the lift + new tires are gunna set me back my savings of 3 grand.

Cool, 33s will do fine for you for sure, getting an ifs skid and sliders should be a priority if wanting to do more challenging trails however.

any suggestions...the sliders are easy to find for a fair price, but I haven't done my fair share of skid/under armor research.

Cool deal. I'm in Roanoke too. I've ridden some of the trails between White Rocks and Mountain Lake. Been considering seeing if I could get through Potts Mountain but I want sliders and skidplates first. Do you know of any other good trails around? There have to be some in Franklin County.

Other than some ok fire roads not really that I know of. George Washington National Forest has some decent trails that can be fun. Out near Harrisonburg.

problem with Franklin County are most of the ones I know are on private land. You have to beg and plead a buddy who knows a buddy to get access. The only place I'm starting to work on to see whats there is out at Ferrum College. I knew some guys who went there, but keep forgetting to ask about any good spots.

I would decide on a particular company that you really like that offers full skids and bumpers so you can match them up, then just buy little by little, starting with the ifs skid and a pair of weld on sliders, not that bolt on junk. It holds up fine but over time moisture gets between the frame and sliders and causes deterioration, not good.
