Is the hydro done yet?

 

I love seeing the carnage in this thread. It let's me know you having a damn good time. I basically screwed off at work today just reading this thread.
I cant wait to see what else your doing.

 

No lol wrx, mini and the Aztek has kept me busy lol goal is start and finish February on hydro. Gives me a weeks for bolt checks and replacing the common failures (wheel bearing, u joints, outer tie rods, heims, etc)

Thank you! So far the main thing is to get the full hydro steering installed and properly mount the fuel cell lol. But it has been a fun ride building this thing

 

4 or 5 days ago.

 

Update on moab prep... ripped out the crappy steering rack and started clean up on the frame for welding and modifications. Also started mocking up the full hydro for mounting ideas.

Also started ordering parts brake lines and fittings for trail fix, new spare wheel bearing, and fuel cell mount so far. Other things I may order are rebuildable fj80 tie rod ends, poly performance alignment tab things, new tsl spare tire, and field hydraulic line kit for a trail spare.

 

Best reusable zip ties I've ever used. Keeping this link as a marker for myself but everyone should have a pack.

But the Harborfreight normal pos zipties are so much cheaper to just cut and replace as needed.
Why use reusable?

 

My temporary zip tie usage tends to be permanent.

 

They are very almost 30" long but I use the to hold things down on my bed or the cage.

Delrin or some sort of bushing for limiting throw of the ram
Hydraulic hoses (I had a local marina make them for me)


This is the parts list that I am running on my set up. The psc ram is a very tight fit and I'm not going to guarantee you will make it fit so there is another ram option that I will list below.

The difference is the ram and shaft diameter. The trail gear ram has been in my buddies truck for a little over a year now and the only issue we had was the shafts wanting to bend under stress so we hard mounted the delrin bushings to the frame and that has eliminated the issue. (The shiny black parts)

You can see how close the length is to oem but it didnt offer enough support before the modification to handle the stress.


The tc psc power steering pump is almost a direct bolt in. I had to add 3/16 shim on the back of the top bolt to make it a snug fit. As for the pulley I haven't found a 7 rib to fit it in a 4.5 diameter. So I used the 6 rib and pressed it on so all the pulleys align towards the front of the vehicle. Now I run a factory length 6 rib belt. I also made my own ram mount out of steel and welded it to the cross member.


I ended up removing even more metal from the top of the clamps but never got a final photo before I installed the ram.

As I wrap up the install I will take photos of how I mounted everything and update this post.


Also if you plan on tackling this project these are not the only things you will need. The tie rods will have to have a heim inner. So now you need to upgrade the tie rods. Here are my parts list for that.
