    How did that welder do? Planning on setting up a trail welder one day (sooooon). Is that just 24/36v DC neg with a wire feed or is he powering a box?

    It's a ready welder. Just a spool gun that clamps to batteries for 12/24/36v dc

    I made a "kit" out of 3 sets of jumper cables, a pair of vice grips and I carry welding rods with me. I'll get some pics if you need them. Less than 100 bucks invested.

    I was debating on making a stick welding one as well. Do you carry 6010 or 7018 rods?

    I think I have both. That ready welder is cool, but I like stick for the obvious fact you can weld through water, paint and mud and you can find welding rods even in the middle of no where USA.

    @beertimecontinuum
    Here is my welding kit:
    20200619_150709.jpg
    It consists of 3 sets of jumper cables, 1 set separated, that's your welding leads. I have a small needle nose vice grips that is used as the electrode holder, rod holder and gloves.
    20200619_150713.jpg
    I leave instructions in the brown bag with my gloves because you will either be buzzed, hung over, or ultimately forget how to hook things up and what rod to use. Last thing you need is to blow up a battery in the woods and make a shitty situation worse, or you now owe your friend a battery.
    20200619_150735.jpg
    The rods I carry.
    20200619_150740.jpg
    Water proof rod holder. I got everything off Amazon.

    Bleeping jeep has a pretty good video on battery welding as well, I used this to setup my kit along with a few other forum posts on some jeep sites.

    I may change my cable setup and use ring terminals instead of clamps on the jumper cables used to hook up the batteries in series.

    Full hydro is really paying off! Wheeling locked and being able to turn makes it so enjoyable. Wheeled all day Saturday at 10 psi and then drove into town to get Mexican food. Drove great the whole way there and back. Then Sunday morning we decided to go hit George winter trail and it got good. Eric and I made our way up to the left turn and it has gotten dug out good! I got hung up on my belly and while trying to wiggle my way out we heard a loud pop. Thinking it was a cv axle I winched out and we spotted Eric through. While going down the mountain I noticed the front clicked when I hit the gas so I know it was the front diff. When I parked on the trailer oil came pouring out. Eric and a few of the guys made a beer run to Walmart since it had turned into a drinking day while David and I pulled my skid to assess the damage. Turns out the rear mounting point for the diff broke allowing the front diff to rotate forward making contact with the side off my engine block. So this week I get to rip apart the front end and see how good our best aluminum tig welder is at the shop haha.20200907_132420.jpg
