Watching the Sunday night game. All the commercials of trucks and cars driving and parking themselves. I'm I in the minority not wanting robots and cameras steering my and driving my damn vehicle for me? This and every time I see another story of another persons Tesla's driving then into another semi or concrete divider, makes me fear for our species.

My 9 year old will be getting me dumb 2013 stick shift when he turns 13. Same as I got a dumb stick shift as 16 year old.

Not necessarily a robot but my Subaru outback battery died on me and it was a nightmare trying to get all the gadgets to work right after.
Electronic ebrake makes it a real pain to jump start a car parked head in a tight spot!

I looked at a new Honda CRV last month and was really turned off by all of the electronics. The salesman said there were multiple computer processors involved. When we lifted the hood I was looking at a motor with a blower that was slightly larger than the one on my motorcycle. I guess that stuff is here to stay. I said thanks and left.

One of the biggest problems in not exactly electronic, but mechanical. It is "direct injection."

The air fuel mix no longer goes past the intake valve which keeps it clean from blow by and in time, it develops carbon reducing the beneficial effects of increased fuel mileage and less emissions.

Toyota sort of fixed it by using dual injection in some of their vehicles. Just enough squirt from the intake injector to keep things clean. Another method is to employ a "catch can" to pick up the junk from the crank case that would be transferred to the intake valve via the PCV valve.

To get self driving vehicles to “really work” they need to talk to each other and the central authorities.

Hopefully you'll still be able to buy some vehicles without all the electric do dad's, but who knows. More stuff to break, lol

I see that happening... Cars talking to each other, adjusting their speeds so switching lanes is a breeze. All the long trip cars move to the left, and the other lanes negotiate getting to their exits.
It could end traffic jams if implemented correctly.
Sounds cool and scary at the same time. No thanks.

I don’t know. Computers couldn’t be worse than the idiots I see driving around now.

In all seriousness though things like automatic emergency braking are very effective at protecting other drivers from morons staring at their phones or other distractions. So while I’m not all that interested in it myself I’d be more than happy to have it mandatory in all vehicles just to reduce the risk of a texting idiot ramming my rear at 45 mph. They reduce overall rear end collisions by about 40% and in the remaining collisions greatly reduce the damage as they typically take about 20 mph off the collision speed. The “nannies” are pretty effective but they are most effective for a good driver when the other vehicles around them are equipped.

I’d love a fully autonomous vehicle for my commute. I’m not holding my breath though - I think that is much further off than a lot of pundits claim. I hope we can get there in the next 40 years though so I don’t have to be one of those poor farts on the elder care bus getting taken to the grocery store once a week. I’d love it even sooner so my mother could benefit from it as well if she ends up unable to safely drive herself. Loss of a driving license is a big impact not just on the elder but also their caregivers.

Anybody who rides a motorcycle on the street knows how distracted/oblivious/retarded the general public is behind the wheel. I'm looking forward to robots driving cars.

I do, but I already think my 2010 is advanced. Im looking to buy a commuter car. My gf asked if its going to be new, and i sad no way. Im looking at 20+ years old. The old hondas/toyotas are still getting 30+ mpg

Oh I'm not sayin' I'm hip to technology...for me (haha. I was just looking at a manual trans 2002 Corolla on Craigslist for the same reasons you are).

I am saying that the driving public is increasingly distracted by modern living. As a moto rider living in a tourist town, in a state where cannabis is not only legal but part of the everyday culture, I'm looking forward to some binary control when I'm out there with nothing more than a helmet and some d30.

The more crap they put in vehicles, the more additional crap they have to install to overcome the distraction created from the earlier crap.
My 69 Grand Prix had a radio and a heater. Oh yeah, and 4 ashtrays!! But none of this modern shit to distract me while drivng.
It's getting worse every model year. Not better.

It's so bad, I just stay out of town on my bike. Luckily it's a dual sport and I live in the country, lol.

I really want to see the "Tacoma TRD vs Tesla truck" comparison. It won't be long before some jack wagon gets his hands on a Tesla truck and tries to run the Baja 1000 or something crazy haha
