I live in Victor too! I have been dealing with Vanderstyne which hasn't been the best experience. I have the howl and 25000 miles on my truck. I contacted Vanderstyne about this which they said was a "normal" sounds for the truck. How is the Shift Sense? I am running a tune from orange virus tuning which has been fantastic!

I can't post this in the buy/sell/trade thread, but I think I can mention it here. Mobtown sliders are on order (Black Friday sale!!) and I won't be needing my factory predator side steps. I'm looking for $125 for the pair. I'm happy to take them off when they're sold but don't want to till then. The driver's step took a hit once and has been welded back together. It's fully functional, and really is unnoticeable unless you're looking for it or right on top of it. There's also a nick out of the bottom of the leading edge passenger front support. Aside from those two issues they're clean and straight.

WNYTACO, Not really impressed with the shift sense pro. After I bought it they came out with the 2nd version chip which I bought and installed and am using the number 2 program, better but still not impressed with it. Took the truck in to Vanderstyne for the 1st check up (and the last) figuring they would change oil and do a complete check. They looked at the brakes and tires and filled my windshield washer fluid, NO OIL or anything else. For this I am not going to drive 30 miles in rush hour traffic. Back to Farmington Service for me.

From the ROC. Saw this thread so thought I’d peak in. Living in SE FL on the Atlantic currently with a ‘16 Taco TRD OR. Soon will have an ‘18 4Runner TRD OR Premium. If I was up there I’d have a go at those predators. Pretty sure they would fit on my new ride. Same chassis for Taco and 4R I believe.
Don’t miss the winters there. Only come home in summer to visit family in Brockport and Spencerport.
BTW, selling my Shift Sense Pro since I’m trading the Taco if anyone interested. Worked great for me but Taco is leaving the driveway to make room for 4Runner. Also selling rigid pro fogs and pro grille, pro shift knob, and a Gentex Homelink mirror with compass (plug and play). Have a tri-fold tonneau with LED lighting underneath but shipping that would likely be cost prohibitive.

Anybody see my old Taco, as seen in my profile driving around the Roc or if you happen to be the new owner send me a message. Be happy to answer any questions about it. It stands out with the 3rd gen sport rims.

Just took the truck in for 10000 mile oil change at Vanderstyne. Told them of 2 instances where I was trying to accelerate from a stop, first was making a right turn in traffic at an intersection and when I hit the gas pedal there was NO RESPONSE. Had to pump accelerator 4-5 times for a response. Second time I was in a store parking lot and had the wheel all the way to the left to make a U turn and when I hit the gas pedal again NOTHING. Pumped the pedal and after 4-5 tries it finally accelerated again. The Technician from Vanderstyne said and I quote, TEST-DROVE COULD NOT DUPLICATE CONCERN, NO PROBLEM FOUND AT THIS TIME. Then they went on to inform me , not to try this maneuver while in 4 wheel drive. What a bunch of BS.

That sucks. I have been running the tune from OVtune and this has eliminated any response issues I had. I never had it quiet as bad as you have described however.

Maybe an issue with the traction control or abs system killing the throttle? Try disabling it and see if you can repeat it. The TRACS system is stupid anyways.

I looked into the OVtune but do not have the required equipment needed for the install. I enquired about another system but they needed the truck for about 3 hours for the installation and they were down near Philadelphia. Still looking.

OVTune provides the equipment other than having a windows pc to apply the tune. For me it was well worth the money.

Hey, WNYTACO, another Rochesterian here. Thinking about pulling the trigger on the OV Tune. You seem to be pretty happy with it. Any regrets? I'm a MAC guy myself but apparently it's not too tough to install Virtualbox or another Windows simulation program into my Macbook to do the flash. Only 2 months into my 1st Taco and really liking it so far!

It has been the best thing I have bought for my taco. No regrets at all.

How does it work with the Automatic transmission? Originally it was for the Manual transmission.

I have had it for since the end of last August. The tune was originally for the autos as that is where the biggest issue was. Ovtune makes separate tunes for the autos and manuals that come in a 87 and 91 versions. I have had 3 different iterations of the tune as ovtune has progressed with its development. I have around 15000 miles with these tunes. The tunes really do transform the trucks shifting and power.

Does the OVtune have to reside in a windows based pc or can it be downloaded from the pc to a thumb drive for later use?

Has to be on a windows machine. I know some people with a Mac have used virtual pc to run Windows and load the tune on their trucks.
