I've been trying to convince my DW that we need to trade our 2020 Outback Onyx XT for a Tacoma. The Onyx isn't made for a life of hauling gear, mountain bikes and off road travel. With only 25,000 miles the front rotors are already machined to the maximum.

We test drove a 2017 Sport DC LB and that was a failure. It almost like driving my F350. I started to look at the Honda Ridgeline. While at the Honda dealer the salesman said the Premium not the Sport rides similar to the Ridgeline.

It took a few calls but I found a 2022 Offroad Premium that we took it for a test drive last night. The Premium is much better so the DW gave me the green light with ONE exception. She needs get into the Tacoma wearing a skirt.

I don't want foot boards so I need to find rock rails that have removable steps.

Looks like you may be looking for something like the AMP Research retractable truck steps/running boards.

Companies also make rock sliders with optional panels so you can use them as steps/running boards. Or there are companies that actually make removable steps for their sliders

It's to bad m.o.r.e. Step (hide a step)doesn't make something for the tacoma. I have there single folding steps on my wrangler and the work great. Spring action, they tuck right under the rocker.

Thanks for pointing that out. In the end I'll probably build something but for now I have something the DW can approve. Now I just have to wait 5-8 months.
