This is some sound input. 90% of people rocking sliders will never use them. Aluminum is a far better option for most and they will be plenty strong for the odd oops. If the truck is intended to be on rocky trails constantly with the odds of it being used then steel is better.

random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
There’s a couple of us here in Southern CA that make sliders. My design is weld on only. My personal recommendation is not to powder coat anything that’s meant to take a beating. Cheers!

no one agrees on best slider

    how about this
    What’s the best installation method?

im thinking floor jack pushing up at the center of the slider to cinch it to the frame before final tightening bolts

Gonna be first time doing this on a floor soon (goal is to POR15 rust)
Maybe wire wiz wheel, hand wire brush, stab at the rust with a flathead and hope that’s good enough to get the flakes off…

last time initial install was standing up underneath on a shop lift with two pole jacks pushing up the slider, one on each end of it

also OP, if price is a factor, that may set one by default. Like if you happen to find a local cheap set in X brand then there you go.
Unless of course for some reason 4WP is selling brand new ones for $300 that seem to have more sliding surface flat underneath…
No refinishing or obtaining hardware to worry about since it’s new.

Why would anybody buy sliders and not go wheeling at least on some trails?
Ok op so if you don’t plan on using them then just buy the cheapest you can get shipped to you

I’ve done them twice and have done the single jack with a piece of 2x6 between the slider and the jack. Second time around I was solo and used two floor jacks lifting each until I got the slider situated. Two jacks made it loads easier.

See it all the time up here, fully armored mall rigs are a dime a dozen. I personally don't have sliders yet and I still have loads of trail miles with enough Close calls that they moved a few notches up on my pick up list.

I went with TJM they're longer and cover the front fender and bed edges too. More cost effective than other options and sufficient for my uses and need for extra protection. It's streamlined and hugs the curvature of the truck too which is a nice look.

Same reason people put 2-3” lifts and/or 33’s on their truck. At least sliders can protect from door dings on their way back and forth from the mall…

There is a number of criteria to assess and compare a slider.

    -bolt on
    -good looks
    -maximum coverage
    -20deg, kickout, fill plates

few, if even more than one, fill that criteria

or, depending on what is available both new and used; price

another thing that may or may not be a concern to you
    matching brands
If you already have a bunch of other stuff from a good brand that you like, it may look good to match it. The parts might all match too.
    Rather than a mixed assortment.

Side-swipe and direct T-bone accidents aren't all that common compared to direct front / rear, front-quarter, and rear-quarter accidents -- but if side-swiped or T-boned, a well-built slider can add some impact protection. Especially side-swipes...

Or just result in a bent frame. Kind of the same argument for solid front bumpers.

That's a good point. I guess in certain situations it might better to have the body crumple & the frame stay straight.

Most sliders on the market are pretty solid, it's hard to go wrong. Personally, I love my All-Pro Off-Road sliders. They are an easy bolt-on set, and the bottom rail is flat thanks to countersunk holes and flush bolts. It makes them slide a bit easier. Not too many brands seem to do that. You can get them without the top plate for a tube look (my favorite) or you can get the plate. If you want a set I've got a 10% off code with them so feel free to use it! Best of luck with your search.

    10% off code: "sharkythetaco"

Wescott is the only company I've seen making sliders with a clear powdercoat option, if you want something very unique looking.
