rock sliders need recommendations

FYI BAMF moved to Grass Valley, no more bay area.
All my armor is BAMF. Solid stuff. I've had the sliders for a while and would hit something here and there very lightly. It wasn't until I really started rock crawling my taco that I realized sliders don't have to be used as an emergency but they are plan A. It's amazing the way you can use the slider to hit a rock and then swing around it and make a tight corner or just slide down some rocks.

I'm leaning towards 0 at this point primarily as a step. Has anyone seen BAMF sliders mounted at 0 or 10 with plates? I'll call Jerry at BAMF today but curious if anyone has pics.

- kick out or no kick out
- filler plates or no filler plates
- bare metal or powder coated

+1 on this. And also, buying local would help a lot with shipping costs.

But that being said, I’m happy with BudBuilt sliders and they’ve held up on some of my wheeling trips

Given how expensive all slider setups are, if possible it'd be best to wait for sales on whatever you choose to go with, there'll be different times different companies have sales up at besides Black Friday.

A big factor for picking your setup will be what you actually plan to use them for. Do you need steps into the truck that can survive taking some hits occasionally, or want sliders specifically that can also be used as steps to some degree? Do you plan to purposefully drag sliders over rocks as part of wheeling, or mainly want insurance for accidental hits when you midjudge clearance on a rock or water bar?

I went with an aluminum setup from Greenlane Offroad as I mainly wanted protection from dragging over dirt water bars, if I slid into a deep rut in a road, or from the occasional falling down onto a rock. I went with a 0 degree (flat) setup so they could be used as steps to stand on and to reach the roof. Aluminum is lighter weight and won't rust from all the gravel and debris I know will be hitting the undersides of the sliders, which fits my use case, but there are reasons why most sliders aren't made this way however.

Steel on the other hand is used for most sliders for good reason because it will handle being dragged across hard or rough surfaces like rocks (whereas aluminum is more likely to gouge) and if pushed too hard steel has a much higher tendency to bend instead of breaking. But it also is much heavier, and steel can have issues with rust if you have a bad powdercoat or don't touch sliders up when they're damaged.

EDIT: forgot to note that an over 0 degree slider angle that puts them closer to the body is better for ground clearance, but means you can't use them as step ups. I also liked 0 degree because they are directly in line with my frame rails, so I can easily tell what my ground clearance under my frame is looking from the side or even from the driver's seat out the window.

I know this is old, but that was a great reply and everything you said makes perfect sense.

I do like that some of the manufacturers have sliders with very low degrees, so you get a little bit of both worlds.
