My sliders probably saved my truck from being totaled when some asshole turned through an intersection from a non-turn lane and hit the rear of the slider.

Hell yeah. That's exactly the scenario I'm wanting to avoid by adding heavily-built sliders.

Without getting into all the desktop engineering and only looking at the make up of the existing doors in cars as an example, these are simple thinner than slider gauge steel "beams" running parralel with the frame to protrect occupants. Take any door panel off to see.

So- I would assume that sliders would add some level of increased resistance. Although probably negligible in the big picture of things especially when you're talking below your legs and in the exact situation you're talking about.

tacoma door construction likely doesn’t hold a candle to other vehicles like Typ 8E B6/B7 which ranked high in side impact safety. Door is multi-panel, thick, heavy, and steel. IMG_5542.jpg

But show the Amtrak train, though. I'm sure it was totalled.

You d think so but Tacoma scores well also on side impact and their doors sound like tin with simple bars in the doors? Im no vehicle design engineer but my guess is majority of rigidity comes from the A B and C pillars. Especially for roller over.

I know Benz makes some safe units. Never opened up one of theirs.

IDK if the Taco has bars in the doors. I don't recall seeing any in mine with the trim panel off to change speakers.

I know other cars have them. Thick solid metal doors. Multiple layers of metal. And strong pillars.
Volvo was even known for their extended B-pillar bottom contributing to their high safety; it comes out in a square shape, something maybe no other car has. Audi lower B-pillar does come out a bit, but not in a square shape. Same with Benz. Thick metal.
VW has done testing on their SUV a-pillars in the event of rollover/flip to show it can support the weight of the entire vehicle on just one corner of A-pillar basically

I haven't read into the safety testing of the Tacoma but feel like a part of it is being a somewhat high up truck on a frame
that if hit on the side by a sedan, it's simply gonna go under the truck

My buddies 2012 Tacoma. Had a push bar on it and did not affect the airbags, they deployed. Broken eye socket and broken wrist, otherwise ok. Drunk driver hit him head on.upload_2023-10-2_20-21-59.png

    Ho-lee-ph*k

Glad he made it out alive and not too badly injured

What do you mean by "push bar"?
