well yeah the kicker door speakers are probably your best bet without having to add an additional amplifier. These will probably be the best bang for your buck.

Extremely impressed with my Kicker KS-series 6x9s (44KSC6904). Are there better speakers out there? Sure. You can also try to shave off $20/pair and really lose a lot of quality. Big jump between the $80 CS-series and the KS.

For my money, I think the 44KSC6904 is the best 6x9 you can buy with $100.

 

For all of you guys running full range speakers in your door, and tweeters in your dash, please research phase wave cancellation. It’s the same technology that is used in noise canceling headphones.

When you have two speakers playing the exact same frequencies, they hit your ears at different times and are out of phase. This out of phase signal combines and cancels each other. You’re likely not hearing all of the music.

My suggestion for the best possible sound is to pick up a decent set of components with an external crossover and run new speaker wires to bypass the high pass filter that’s built into the oem wiring.

 

Why don't you get the same cancellation effect from the rear speakers vs. the front?

 

Technically, you do! For the highest quality sound, your best bet is to eliminate your rear speakers altogether. At the minimum, you should use the fader and set it so you can barely hear the rear speakers.

You can also use seating position or time alignment settings in an aftermarket head unit to overcome this effect.

Treble is very directional, so this effect will be harder to hear with tweets. Play around with your fader/balance settings and I’ll bet you can hear the difference in low and mid range frequencies.

 

My new headunit has time delay adjustments for each channel. What's the theory behind adjustments? You want the audio from each speaker to arrive at your ears at the same time?

 

That’s exactly what you need to do. If the signals hit your ear at the same time, there is no cancellation.
