I know I can use the search function but I haven't found someone with exactly my problem(s).

    I have a 2005 regular cab base 4-cylinder manual.

At speeds around 45 mph it has sort of a hum. I don't know a better way to describe it. I think it can be heard as low as 25 - 30 mph but I hear it best when I'm at about 50 and start coasting. The noise doesn't seem to change pitch with speed, just changes intensity (volume) with speed. It sounds the same regardless of clutch position, shifter position, and braking. I haven't noticed whether or not turning has any effect on it.

ALSO: When I'm moving really slow, maybe 5 mph (think stop n go traffic at 5 PM) the whole truck seems to shake or rock a little. Almost like I have an eccentric wheel or something. It happens when accelerating and decelerating, under power or on the brakes, whatever.

Wondering if anyone has had these two issues at the same time, if they're related, and what you did about it.

Thank you for the fast response

I will jack the fronts up and spin and shake them as soon as I get a chance. I did this a few weeks ago when the problem was just starting and didn't really notice anything too bad. Now the noise is worse so maybe I can be more sure

Bad wheel bearing doesn’t always have play when you shake the . Just keep that in mind.

I'm going to say it's not a wheel bearing.

You're describing classic symptoms of a failing u joint in your drive shaft.

That was it. I swapped the u joints and found that one of the bearings on the transmission side was just a cup of rust. Now I just need to remember to grease the new ones. Glad it only cost $30 to get rid of that noise. Thank you!
