ROCKtober THERAPY 2017 - Back to the Basics

Those of you that have done top of the world in Moab, do I need a locker in my runner to complete it? It's one of my biggest bucket list items!

 

I'd recommend it, having one saved me more than once, but at the time I didn't have 33s or a supercharger.

 

Anyone from Los Angeles area planning on going? Looking to get my high clearance rear on in a couple months, and hopefully skids by then

 

I didn't need 4x4 and made it all the way up and around but I did have my locker. I think you'd be fine without lockers tho

 

for a long scenic day, check out lockhart basin or go explore beef basin...cameo cliffs was not a bad option down south too

another fun long day is seven mile>3D>tusher tunnel>bartlett wash>long canyon

I will be making a summer trip for a weekend, what do you recommend for a 2 dayer?

 

Agree! Sometimes the exploration is more fun than almost death... I'm trying to convince myself to do Cliffhanger... but.... ahhh lol

 

When you're on 42's the exploration stuff is almost just as bad as driving down the freeway. If you do go on Cliffhanger just make sure you're with a capable rig.
My group will be doing Pritchett canyon and Rustynail this year.

for a summer trip, i'd spend a night in arch canyon, head over to hotel rock then continue past and up to elk ridge. drop down into beef basin and go through elephant hill....slightly higher elevation will keep the temps a little more manageable. a more unique twist to wheeling over there...

or lockhart basin with a side trip to chicken corners>elephant hill into beef basin....you can take elk ridge over to 95 or stevens canyon...there's many routes between elk ridge and stevens to connect to the south depending on how much you want to explore..

 

Ah the curse of Moab. You drop a packet building your rig, then realize the guys on stocks IFS are having more fun getting obstacles that don't even register to you as obstacles any more.

I might tag along on Pritchett if you guys are ok with that.

It can get pretty brutal out there in Summer even after dark as the west and southwest facing rocks give off all that heat.

If you do elephant hill, also hit the joint and the confluence overlook.

If you can nail down dates, book a back country permit to camp at devils kitchen. You can get under some cave like overhangs and avoid some of the midday heat.

I don't think I used my locker when I ran it. A lot of times, a locker isn't even needed in Moab because the "slick rock" is actually like sand paper. If you overuse your locker out there, it can lead to blown up diff

 

Can't make it in fucktober, we'll be out in May though

 

I see a Top of the World Check Off Bucket List run in our future then...

I know my rig is capable enough... it's just fuck that cliff sounds freaky. I did not enjoy that last rock garden on Kane Creek

 

as with any harder trail...do not go alone...and in the case of cliffhanger, make sure that rig is also capable

 

Cliffhanger is the only trail I need to revenge
