This is actually a cool site down by the river. We started the rim before sun up and caught the sunrise before descending Schaefer and it was pretty spectacular. There’s a few short hikes you can squeeze in but you’ll need to keep a good clip to make it before sunset.

I started the trail at noon last year and made it to hardscrabble during sunset. I figured if I started early morning I would have plenty of time to explore.

Does this event make it possible to have a campsite set up the duration of the event to come back to each night or is it always moving to a new spot every 1-2 days?

I’m bringing my trailer with CVT on it and don’t want to lug it around as it will hinder my ability to enjoy trails

There's places to set up camp and stay for the period of the event. We did that for two nights last year. Similar to any multisite campground yellow post situation.

So I'll preface this with I know everyone will have figgereng opinions, but I wanted to try and opinion about this because I've never been to Moab but plan on attending this year.

I have a TRD-OR 5th gen T4R and am running 285/75/17s. I plan on doing one of the two begote Moab for the trip .

RTT or gears and adding in a front locker. I already have a good ground tent setup but I don't know what our camp site will be like in Moab.... However I also don't know what the trails and terrain are like in Moab and if it fully warrants getting a front locker foe the trip. Thoughts?

There’s a lot that goes into a front locker and you can honestly do a ton without it. Armor before a locker.

DO NOT waste money on a front locker if you dont have armor, rear locker, and other "necessary" upgrades (wheels/tires, suspension, skids, etc). If you ask people that KNOW offroading (not saying I do, but I have talked to those who do; and I have been around a little) given most circumstances, things can be done with a rear locker and driver combo. I am not discrediting a front locker, but if you are doing this FOR a moab trip, i would highly recommend against wasting that hard earned money on a front locker. Most who have both, dont even run their front but 10% of the time since the rear is normally sufficient. I assume you are driving a DD, not a rock bashing, caged, trail crusher, which is also directing my advice.

There will be nay sayers to this which is fine, its TW haha but you asked, and I hate seeing people throw money at stuff that is not a necessary requirement. If you are spending a fortune in addons that are not required, I dont think you should just be told 'yea go for it!' cuz its not anyones money but yours. having said that, do what you want. I will tell you (having never been to moab) A FRONT LOCKER IS IN NO WAY REQUIRED to have a great time and ride great trails.

    (let the bashing begin haha)

Rear locker, a winch, and armor are all you need.

    I get that completely!

I messed up personally when I regeared and DID NOT do the rear locker at the same time. I didnt want to spend the extra 800-1k (cant remember exactly) at the time of doing 4.56s. so about 3 years later, I ended up doing the rear and it cost somewhere around 1200 just for the locker (sadly I didnt have the time to do it myself due to deployment). I learned that one of the hard way :annoyed:.

I def think it's wise to do gears and a rear locker at the same time...I just dont think a DD would sufficiently use a front locker and that money could be better utilized elsewhere with mods.

shouldn't really even need to regear if you're only running 285s. especially with an auto, gears for 285s is overkill. all of that money can be better spent on other items.

skids, bumpers, sliders, winch, cb and/or ham radio, new suspension, improve your camping gear (kitchen, tent, awning, etc), drawer system for the back... just to name a few areas that i would look to spend money instead of gears if you're only on 285s.

how about new rear control arms to help with your suspension travel, strength and adjustability? control arms up front to help with travel and better alignment? upgrade your brake lines to extended lengths?

You provide very valid arguements lol.

Yeah so I already have Relentless front bumper, BAMF sliders, ADS suspension, HAM radio, and a good camping setup.... but yes you are totally right. It would be great to have full skids as well as a winch. It's not that the vehicle is not driveable, just not as pleasant as it could be I'm thinking.

Yeah.... I have been avoiding the rear. I know TC makes the arms for the rear which would be great. I am running KDSS so I am a little limited in my travel, but honestly it isn't too bad.

Out there, do you guys run mainly HAM or CB?

If the group you're running with has HAM radios/licenses, they will be running HAM. No one in their right mind would choose to run CB if HAM is available.

EDIT: HAM is getting much more popular and had pretty significant use at last years event. I predict CB will die out in the wheeling community in the somewhat near future due to the cheap serviceable HAM radios available and the fact that the HAM test is pretty easy to pass and cheap/free to take.

    ^this

you can even run a basic FRS radio and communicate with a dual band ham setup using these frequencies with often times a better range than CB

are the handheld HAMs with only the rugged channels programmed sufficient?
