ill decide.. My truck despite it's 3.4 V6 and 6,000# fat ass seems to do really good in the sand because i have giant tires.

 

Might not make it this year after all. Just got T-boned on the drive to work, and now I need to find somewhere that can straighten out a bent rock slider (welded on to the frame). Also need to make sure the drive-train is OK since she got me almost square into the rear axle on the pass side (left a fog light bezel under the bead on my rear tire).

 

just have her insurance magic that shit back to good enough to go to Moab and don't worry about the slider i'm rocking a bent slider as well.

 

Insurance is on it, the tricky part is whether or not the slider can be straightened out in place. I'm not sure about how to remove and replace a welded on slider.

 

Perfect . Just have the frame checked. Get the axle bearing on that side replaced then a replacement tire and wheel hit Moab and fix the rest when you get home

 

The real question is how many psi was in the motor?

Why? we could probably fix it at camp. Not gonna lie i enjoy fixing shit as long as I don't do it too often.

 

I've gotta get it dealt with before the trip, since where it's at now is going to be in the way of repairing/replacing the body panel. It did rip the hell out of her front end (bumper and grill hanging off) and that black thing on my wheel is her fog light bezel which ended up wedged under the bead of my tire, somehow it didn't blow the mounting seal since I had 28 psi after taking the hit.

I'm guessing that without the slider there, I'd probably be needing a new back door and possibly some straightening of the cab instead of just a quarter panel. I'm torn on hoping the frame might be bent though since having it totaled would give me an excuse to go to a 4WD, but I've put so much work and extra $$$ into the build that doing that would be a huge PITA and cost me a lot of weekends in the future.

 

bending a slider while still on the truck? get insurance $$, cut it off and put a fresh set of sliders on there...

 

total it can use that money toward building a bad ass 1st gen 4x4

 

yeah i mean i straitened out my drop bracket in BFE 4 or 5 years ago. I have a bent slider. I was going to replace that one slider then decided id just repair the slider and now I'm like fuck it. You'll see.

 

I was eventually going to try to do that eventually anyway. 1st gen Taco is my 3rd choice for a trail rig behind a 1st gen 4Runner or a 70s vintage FJ40. I'm not sure which is easiest to fund in my area, most of the old 1st gen tacos are either owned by guys who plan to keep them forever or are used as work trucks by landscapers.

 

Looks like all of the support tubes to the frame are undamaged, the base tube of the slider is buckled and probably unsalvageable.

I'm talking to Demello about options for replacing it, but I'm not sure I want to deal with having the original mounting plates cut off the frame at the welds. I'm hoping there might be some way to retain the existing support structure and maybe bolt on a new slider to those tubes.

 

i only have the 3.4 but I'm stuffing 10#'s down it's throat.

only time will tell though.

 

per usual we will figure out what trails we are going to run the night before we run them which i will probably announce at the fire. looks like most of the Idacrew wont be showing up till the 17th so or 18th and the only trials that we even talked about running are moab rim, cliff hanger, and Pritchett.
