I've taken the liberty of augmenting Bobs great diagram. I've added in red some good camping spot indicators and in white some ones that are not so good.

Thats the plan anyway. Looks like some fun technical stuff that will make a good time filler. Hopefully I can get my gaia all squared away so I don't look like a dip trying to lead us around haha.

Just looking out the window we currently have snow on the ground down to about 8,000 ft with more on the way.

The rim rocker goes over the Uncompahgre plateau which averages about 9,500ft.

So pack your thermals and be prepared to bash through a few inches of snow in spots.

Luckily most of it is just dirt road up there and the season has opened so the hunters are probably churning up all the mud nicely. :)

If you camp primitive and don't have it sorted yet, there is plenty of BLM around Montrose. I'd recommend Dry Creek area, there are some trails, it's a bit lower/warmer than the plateau, you can get low & sheltered in a canyon if you want, or high up on some cliffs for some views.

You can head up to the plateau on Transfer road which I believe is much more interesting then the official route which is on Highway 90.

Looks like Spanish Valley is getting nuked on at the moment too.

Sorry. Auto correct got the best of me. Look up torq 14 . It's a aluminum drop out ( like Toyota diffs) 14 bolt differential with 4 bolt main caps, 2" axle shafts and did I mention it's high pinion? Also look at axle tech's portals .that can be installed onto Dana 60 and 14 bolt axles
