From the start of the Kokopelli (we camped at the start so not counting the time to get there) it took us 2.5 days. Day 1 was the start till Dewey, Day 2 was running TOTW, taking the optional route into Cottonwood Canyon, and Rose Garden Hill, and .5 was from Onion Creek Rd. into Moab. We did end up missing the last leg that goes into the La Sal mountains fully because of road closures too. Could definitely be done faster but we were going at a pretty chill pace.

Thanks for the info! I'd like head out Friday October 12 via Kokopelli and spend a few days in the Maze section of Caynonlands before RT actually starts. Basically the same thing @mountainmonkey and I did last year for White Rim.

That would be awesome. I checked out the Needles overlook before I headed back home and I definitely want to get out there and explore that area so bad.

i usually plan 3 days for the full trail... rabbit valley>fish ford, fish ford>roberts bottom, roberts bottom>moab

you can do it faster with longer days in the saddle...

top of the world is next to the roberts bottom camping and can be done in the afternoon of the second day

rose garden is after roberts bottom and can be bypassed by heading back to 128 and coming up onion creek to continue into thompson canyon

I just submitted a request for the dates/sites below at Canyonlands. Tentative plans are as follows:

    Friday 10/12 - Denver -> Loma/Rabbit Valley Trailhead
Saturday 10/13- Rabbit Valley -> Fish Ford
Sunday 10/14 - Fish Ford -> Roberts Bottom
    Monday 10/15 - Roberts Bottom -> Moab
    Tuesday 10/16 - Moab - > Canyonlands Maze District - Camp @ Maze Overlook 2
    Wednesday 10/17 - Canyonlands Maze District - Camp @ Dollhouse 2
Thursday 10/18 - Canyonlands Maze District - Camp @ The Wall
Friday 10/19 - Head to Moab for RT

    EDIT:

If anyone wants to join for the Kokopelli portion of this trip, you're welcome to. I can only have 3 vehicles at the sites in Canyonlands and they are currently spoken for. If you want to check out Canyonlands, you should jump on a reservation ASAP on their website.

don't underestimate the time it takes to get from point to point in the maze... lots of things to see back there to distract you...

if you aren't a member already with expeditionutah, go check out the trip reports for some great ideas of things to see back there... http://www.expeditionutah.com/forum/index.php

I’m pretty stoked! 200+ miles of dirt!

Thanks for the link! I’ll do some more research on hikes as I purposely picked spots near hiking trails. They’re all kind of in the same area.

No joke on how long it can take. I saw some of those travel times are 6 hours one way! And that’s without stopping to take in the views.

i recommend people to swing through camp in the evening (or if you camp at the main area, even easier) and spark up conversation with people to see where they are running the next day... or even see if someone wants to do an evening run.

look for trucks of similar build as a starter. or find someone you've been wanting to hit a trail with for a while and see if you can mesh plans.

it's an informal gathering where we encourage everyone to meet new people, reconnect with old friends and enjoy yourself. camp fires every night. people heading out everyday to explore the many options in moab.

temps should be 70s-80s during the day and 40-50s at night around that time. leaves are changing on the cottonwoods making for some great scenery.

there's trails there that can be made into a multiple day adventure. many full day, half day and short trail options around the area. from i70/191 south to blanding and 191/128 east to 128/i70 there are endless options.

    trails runs
    hiking options
    sightseeing
    mountain biking
    swimming holes
    float trips
    good restaurants
    old mining operations
    indian ruins
    national parks
    the list goes on....

if all else fails...come find me at camp and i'll fill your head with a handful of options that will fit your needs

My time off requests have to go through me, then approved by me.

My problem is I'm tearing down and rebuilding (leaving only the framing) my wife's childhood home so we can move in around.........October.

any issue bring a dog to this? I know some of the trails no dogs are permitted at the national parks.

dogs are more than welcome. we'll have our two there. i know many others who bring their dogs as well.

be mindful around those who many not like the dog's company or tell you they have allergies. also be courteous to others if your dog has aggressive behaviors.

I'm planning on doing white rim trail Wednesday morning on the 17th. The only open site was potato bottom so I have that reserved. I've invited a few others but strongly believe they will bail. I put in for 3 vehicles. I'll let you all know if they do just in case anybody is interested in doing that trail Wednesday.
