Did you read the thread sir?

The gentleman (OP) has much bigger issues than his oil level.

yes. 31 pages in fact. You would not believe the amount of techs out there that start diagnosing valve timing codes when they are in fact due to low oil levels in the engine. Nor was my question meant to belittle the OP incident in any way. Its easy to overlook the oil level with all that the OP has going on with the multiple incidents. That being said low oil would probably result in no cam timing advance and possibly a low oil pressure fault..

Holy crow, we're up to page 31! We are super hopeful that pulling the valve covers will uncover the wrong sensor plate thing and solve this before I get too old to find my teeth. At this point I'm not above checking little stuff like oil, but the current most likely smoking guy probably relates to the cam sensors, and possible the fuel pressure, though with low idle maybe it would be a little low.

He can do an engine swap but you doubt he can perform an oil change correctly?

I along with everyone else following this thread are not there on site to actually see whats really going on. Shit happens. Look at the butt connected CPS, the dirt in the connectors. Am I really off base asking if the oil level is at the correct level? Some of you on here act like you haven't been in a dealership watching someone try to fix something for days while oil level or blown fuses were not inspected step one. I am on the OP side and admire his diligence and persistence in diagnosing his rig properly!

Assuming the engine has some usable amount of oil, would an incorrect oil level really cause an engine to run this badly?

I'd hazard a guess and go ahead and say yea, you're off base.
OP has been staring at his cluster for a month and hasn't mentioned the low oil idiot light.

Even without the light, if he's missed a few quarts, he'd have tripped over them 600 times by now.

    Yeah.
Man, y'all need to lighten up. I think we've all gotten so deep into trying to solve a problem that we missed the obvious. It happens. Give the guy a break for making a suggestion.

That’s it. You solved it. He didn’t put the oil in the engine after he masterminded a complete swap. He drank it.

Orrr did he drain AT fluid and added 6QTs to the engine?

So this is the difference in the cam sensors between the old motor and the donor, I don't know why they're so different, but the current theory is that whatever these do to the cams, whatever they interact with probably is different inside the valve covers, so we're pulling those and looking on the ends of the cams to compare between old and new.

I also see a cam solenoid mentioned, I don't really know where those are and what to look for, but hopefully it'll be obvious when we get these off.

I filled the motor with molasses, super cool trick I found online, must be true :) Oh wait, Mobil 1 0-20W, more than one.
