Anyone else dealing with rodent damage to wiring in 2024 Tacoma?
I have had damage to my working harness first week of April. Truck is still at dealer for repairs and they tell me that the firing harness will be delivered 2nd or 3rd week of June.
I haven't owned a Toyota for over 40 years. Decided to buy this truck at my retirement due to quality, dependability, and the fact that Toyota is the largest auto mfg in the world. Yet they can't get a single part in under 2 months.
Turns out to be the biggest auto purchase mistake I have had in my life. Really regretting this purchase.

Toyota is still trying to catch up on all the spare parts for this model…but yeah that sucks to hear. May come in sooner than later

Did Toyota switch wire sheathing to some formulation that is more attractive to rodents for the 24+ models?

And after it’s fixed, it can happen again.
    I replaced a harness in a Prius 3 times.
    Been like this for years.
I’ve had as many as 5 vehicles down for harnesses at the same time.
It’s so sad the manufacturers know this is a major issue and won’t address it.
I am sorry this happened but you are not the only one.

    Yeah.
Old, crusty, oil and grime covered wiring is not attractive to rodents. New wiring is. And supply chains are still a mess. Tractor Supply has some stuff that gets rid of rodents. Just don't let your dog get into it.

Where did the mice chew on the wiring? Previously a common area is the fuel injector wiring under the intake manifold - the valley between cylinder banks created a nice sheltered area for nesting. That area is gone with the 4-cyl.

The problem is the rodents, not the wiring.....

It was the wiring harness just above the rear axel controlling sensors and lights for the rear end.

We're seeing a lot with various parts on Toyotas, its due to the soy wiring. Many times the repairs are well beyond 4000$ and not covered by insurance.

There's rodent tape that we use but its expensive and a hard sell for preventative maintenance.

When you get the repair completed consider using some deterant.

What I've been doing is repairing the harness with standard wires then using heat shrink.

what I've done in the past is use peppermint oil spray. they don't like the smell. you can get spray cans of it specifically formulated for rodents. totally harmless in terms of health and environment.

what they DO like is the soy-based plastics and flame retardant used in newer wiring.

Toyota is making too much $$ off of replacing the harness to correct the problem.

Hmm, maybe a new nesting area with the 4-link rear axle...

The wiring becomes part of the problem when you can't get a replacement.
