Anyone had luck with moth balls in the engine compartment to keep critters out?

Bastards chewed through the wires coming from the crank position sensor. Was not super fun removing the CPS for repair since the alternator and the bracket it sits on had to come out.

If you place it (rat poison), they will come.

I'll consider this if other things don't work. My neighbor suggested moth balls. I looked into peppermint like @Nessal suggested and saw folks are using pine sol.

If it doesn't work I may have to resort to more lethal methods. They tasted one of the belts and also bit through the windshield wash hoses.

People I know in ranches leave their hoods open to prevent rodents from making nests. Since they'd be exposed to the elements they won't stay.

My in-laws set up some lights under their cars and it seems to work pretty well.

I’m not sure about moth balls, we’ve used moth balls in our equipment shop to repel insects and the mice don’t seem to care.

I have a couple vehicles (few) that sit for long periods of time, and know that it doesn't take long though for mice to invade. I found a mouse nest on my car that doesn't sit for more than a day or so.
Last Fall I picked up some product with peppermint oil and so far I think its worth getting another jug. I spray it around garage door opening and around the wheels and tires underneath the vehicle that stays outside. It has a detectable order but it's not bad. Couple things to try.20211023_082615.jpg

    Stock, 4WD, Access Cab, White,
    Dribble predator urine around.

Don't use poison baits. Key word is BAIT. or Dinner Bell.

Park in open areas. Rodents run along walls and under cover. They don't like open spaces.
Clear the garage or parking area of all seeds, food, cover and nesting material (paper, cardboard, clothing, fiberglass, leaves, grass.......) If they can't find food or nest material, they will move on.

    It's a secret
My suggestion -- A pair of night-vision goggles, a good .22 pellet air rifle, and a whole lotta patience!

Has anyone who uses Fluid Film on their frame had a rodent problem, I was hoping the FF I apply annually might do for rodents what it does for corrosion?

the problem is once the urinate then it is pretty much over… that is what they are smelling for. Bleach might help.

I've never used it. I can't imagine they'd like it. But been here 5 years, first time I've had a problem.

Don't waste your time on all the myths such as peppermint oil, mothballs and dryer sheets and others. If you have a rodent problem put out traps, if that doesn't work call an exterminator.
