Hey guys, I'm installing this roll bar and it requires me to do some drilling into the bed rails. Has anyone ever removed the top bed plastic rail? I also need to get underneath the bed rail be able to tighten a bolt. As I look at the bed I don't see any way of being able to do that, any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first Toyota, I went from a Honda Ridgeline to this TDR.

    Thanks,

Dumb question. Are you not concerned that the description of this $550 item says it doesn't fit your truck?

The FIRST review says there is no way to mount it to your Tacoma. Plan B ?

Vanguards' site lists the same model for a Tacoma.Screenshot_20200504-190029_Amazon Shopping.jpg []

I'd be more concerned with how ugly it is.

But knowing what I know about the bed and bedsides I would say that mounting this thing will require drilling a holes through the plastic bed rail and hoping you don't hit one of the holes under them. The Canyon/Colorado have steel beds that are one piece so drilling them is much more secure. I'd guess this is a company that hasn't actually tested the part on a Tacoma or they would know that there is no difference in the bed of a TRD and non-TRD Tacoma. Have you seen any pictures of one installed on a Tacoma?

I was passed by a Tacoma that had one installed. I was quick to take note of the shape and manufacturer. I had never seen a Tacoma with a sports bar like that

Well besides pics on the web, I have never seen one at all in person except for this one.
heres my install kit for a Tacoma. I could use 90 degree angle supports that mount to the bedrails like other bars for sale. It sure seems like a quality bar, all the welds are nice and there's no scratches or anything in the powder coat finish and how it came packed was amazing it was so well-protected
Thanks for all the replies guys I appreciate it, if I do mount I'll be sure to put some pictures on,
    thanks,
    Mike

Those instructions won't work for a Tacoma. The plastic bedrail is not solid enough to take a rivnut and there are likely to be holes underneath where the bolts need to mount. You could use fender washers underneath but that's a sloppy way to do it and will come with it's own issues.

If you want to install that, your best bet is to get some 90 angle brackets as you said but even then there will be spacing issues. Of I were you I'd ask for a refund as the product was misrepresented as being compatible with your truck.

There is also another set of hardware and instructions included. I had a Westin bull bar on another truck I owned that also had Dee Zee Nerf and the instructions were just as crappy as these

Armordillo makes a similar product but it was a few $ more and I didn't care for the webbing

That's for joining the 3 pieces, not mounting to the truck.

you could make it work with those instructions, (Personally I wouldn’t though). BUT did you notice the pic you posted from Amazon doesn’t have the bolts into the bedrails? Clearly they just rested it on the bed took a pic, then removed it. A far better way to mount that would be to cut some steel L angle, bolt that into the bed accessory mounting rail so it’s resting on the bedrails, then mount that monstrosity to the L angle. It would be far stronger, and leave no trace if you decide to remove it. BTW, talking of strength, you do realize that’s not actually a roll bar don’t you?
