Ahh, someone's paying attention! My sense of humor is admittedly warped and I'm really interested to see if it's easier to merge onto the Parkway after all these mods. :p

There are a lot of rather unusual cars that pass through the shop, and many of them are street-driven. I figure if a 1000 hp 2006 GTO can pass inspection, I have a chance if I go to the same inspection station. :D

TRD intake, Gibson exhaust, and that's it. Reliability is my main concern, so the less I mess with, the less things should break. About 60% of the people who enter the race never finish and I'm kinda counting on that.

I hope to average between 25 and 30 mph over the length of the race so massive amounts of power won't make a huge impact. The trophy trucks can run at 120mph, but I'd be surprised if I hit 60 on a smooth, flat section. Let most of the other people mod up their rigs and break drivetrain components. I'll keep things as they were built by Toyota and count on the factory build quality to get me there.

Besides, it's the desert. It's gonna be HOT down there and I want the engine to run as cool as possible. That's why no computer chips or stuff like that either. Advancing the timing = more horsepower = more heat = badness when it's already 120 degrees outside.

I guess I need to read up, but aren't the T Trucks 2 WD? Just wondered what all the different classes are? I realize several, both 2 and 4 wheeled vehicles as well as 2 and 4 wheel drive trucks. You planning on just running in 4x4 when absolutely needed? The days young, I could come up with a few more questions. ;)

Ask away! :) There are most classes than you could imagine, and trophy trucks can be 2wd or 4wd. I'll be running Class 7sx, which is a modified stock class. 2wd or 4wd is allowed, and there are restrictions on engine displacement, suspension components, and a few other things.

Many people run 2wd because it's lighter, less complex, and easier to get more suspension travel without worrying about CV joints breaking. I'm running 4wd because it'll allow me to hit obstacles at a lower speed and power through them instead of relying on momentum to carry me over everything.

    It's a tough trade-off:
. More speed = more chance for breakage.
    . 4wd = more stuff to break

I figure I'll take my chances with the 4wd breakage and slow the hell down. It's easier to replace a CV joint than it is to fix a roll-over. :p

here's a good racing tip. add water to the gas tank right before the race to keep the engine cool ;)

Too low of a boiling point. I'll add antifreeze instead!

sure, you've heard of fuel additives right? the more random stuff you cram in your gas tank the better your truck runs

Ah, so THAT'S why my truck won't run -- not enough stuff added to the gas tank! Man, despite my best efforts I do seem to learn something every day! :p

Amusingly enough I'll actually have foam in mine when it's all finished. The fuel cell is an aluminum can with a rubberized bladder surrounded by padding, and inside the bladder is foam. The can is just a strong gas tank, the bladder keeps things contained if the can is damaged, and the inner foam prevents a spray if the bladder is punctured. The More You Know. :D

That cage is awesome. Looks like it will definately protect, although let's hope we don't find out. If I understand you correctly, if you just finish the race, regardless of position, you'll be in the top 40% of those that started the race?
