that is a good deer above.

and i have the hunter cert..and when i buy a new gun, i need proof of the gun safety thing. so i have both.

on a side note. crashed my mtn bike hard. fractured knee cap, jacked up both shoulders..ahhah..pulling back my bow is a non starter. PLUS i decided to swap over to a left handed bow this year..hahhaha..

what an damn disaster!! perfect storm of "i'm probably not hunting this year".

i get a new xray tomorrow on the knee..we shall see where i stand (literally)

Moved up from the Bay Area a couple years ago. Used to go hunting a lot as a teen with my dad. Never actually killed anything myself, but was there with him when he did and had to help him harvest it and carry it out of the woods lol. Just got my license this season, but didn't draw any of the zones I wanted, so just picked up a B zone deer tag. Excited to get out there again after a long hiatus!!

B zone started last weekend. Got out west of Redding into the burned areas but most of the roads into the mountains were closed due to extreme fire damage. Managed to find an area to get into finally and did some driving until we found a nice place to do some walking. We came across some deer and I managed to get my scope on one, but it was a doe. Couldn't tell what the others were as they scattered quickly. A little further up we came across a HUGE bear. Had fun walking around with Dad and seeing signs of life

Besides duck hunting most of my hunting is in Nevada( deer, bear, elk, and antelope)Montana, and A fun draw in Utah besides a Ca antelope tag last year.Lots of years of collecting points but that resulted in some great hunts.

Is there even any public land worth hunting at, say, within a 4 hour drive of the Bay Area?

Seems like you pretty much need to pay-to-play on private land to bag anything in CA these days.

Mendocino National forest is almost 1 million acres and lots of Boone and Crockett bucks come out of there every year.

i call it two weeks of hell.

got back from NM, chasing elk with my brother . archery. his tag..

had a bull walk up to me..seven feet. of course!!!! it was unbelievable, that my cow calling worked that well. i think i suck. right after that, the bulls went silent and refused to come to any call. hunting pressure.

we got into bulls everyday except one..but getting to bowrange is a total bitch. those things work the wind like no animal i have ever seen.

on the bright side..my wife thinks i look skinnier.!!!
