9E8BAD9A-7E85-4976-B2E0-3D6805C50F21.jpg I rolled my taco the other night. Is this worth having someone fix it? The engine is running fine and I’m pretty sure the transmission is also still good. I put the tire back on but now it is toed inward at the bottom. I’m guessing the frame is bent also. I’m not really mechanically inclined, but the truck has a lot of sentimental value to me. I would like to just get it drivable at first. And then gradually fix it up cosmetically over time. Anybody know a good mechanic in Rome Georgia or Gadsden Alabama area? I live in Centre Alabama.214C0B53-53B1-4053-999F-FB16B60B5967.jpg E0587172-42F4-4154-8F1F-9B359D9BF299.jpgC20E9180-AE36-4DAD-B465-8A8F11C82809.jpg 51304468-6F52-42D6-8F7F-9664CEF3131A.jpgF97EB7AE-3123-4453-BDE4-BA42FC3A08AC.jpg7093FC5E-8675-4085-B8A0-7517A52C1BAA.jpg

Thanks for your reply. 255,000 miles on the engine. I bought this truck from my dad 2 years ago for 8k. It has sentimental value for personal reasons I’d rather not get into. But yeah, it’s pretty messed up.

Glad you are healthy and alive to post here. If you are planning on repairing the vehicle back to newish condition, Geeves77 is correct, you are better off parting it out and buying another. That truck is far past totaled based on visual damage and year.
It was close to totaled when you put the Atlanta Falcons Sticker on the truck :)

Edit - After reading above post, buy a new one and transfer some good parts and keep the good memories.

Thank you for your reply Idaho. The Falcons do make it hard on us fans every year, but at least we got the Braves and Ga bulldogs here to help keep us sane .

I think your truck has trucked its last truck, my guy. Best to start coming to terms with it.

It's never gonna be street legal again without paying way more to fix it than it's worth.

55k, probably worth a fix if you have insurance. 255k……….financially speaking and leaving whatever sentiment out, 100% out of the question. 100000%.
Transferring some parts to a new truck or just saving in the garage or something is a great idea.

I have to agree with the others. I'm sorry for the sentimental aspect of saying goodbye to your truck, but I believe that it's toast my friend. Way too much damage to deal with even for sentimental reasons.

If it was me, I would just replace the airbags and straighten out the doors so they function. Probably bend the frame back straight and keep on trucking.

You said that you are NOT mechanically inclined... How much money do you have? It would cost waaaaay more (with labor cost) to fix that truck, in comparison to buying another one.

This mean that your taco is done with you. Time to walk away.

I smell a part out thread.

Are the headlights smashed? I need them haha

    Glad you're alive though

Looks like bad weather in Bama was involved.

Bad weather is the reason. I’m 42 years old and never had an accident in my life until this one. And I was only going 45mph in a 55 mph zone. It happened Monday night on highway 411 going east to Rome Georgia. I work at Pirelli Tire in Rome Georgia. We got a little sleet and snow that night and the highway just froze over and I just ran over a solid patch of ice on a bad curve that had a 10 ft drop into a ditch with no guard rail on it. Fire and rescue couldn’t even stand on the road because it was so slick. The road should have been salted. And later I found out that Georgia had salted their side of the highway and Alabama had not. (I have to travel across state line to work) I’ve only lived in Alabama for the past 4 years and was unaware of how they don’t take care of their roads during freezing weather. Georgia is much better from MY experience. As far as money goes to fix the truck. I have only 4k in the bank right now that I could spend to get it road driveable and from there just do a little at a time cosmetically to make it look good.

Replace the airbags, get the frame and alignment checked. That should make it roadworthy

Take off a few key bits that you can use later on your next Tacoma, and invest the sentimentality in those.

My 2003 Tacoma is running today with the oil filler cap from our family's 1981 Toyota Pickup.

And the alloy fuel filler cap from my first car, a 1968 Triumph TR250, is on my office bookcase today, and it may get mounted to the 1962 Triumph TR3 that replaced that TR250, which I've owned for almost forty-two years now. A little piece of an old vehicle can cover a lot of memories.

Glad the Tacoma protected you through the accident. It did its job.

My opinion, and no I do not know shops in your area, ask around and see what shops have a good reputation, and the ability to repair it.

Likely need a shop with frame straightening equipment, and the ability to find the body seem that joins the roof, assuming it must be replaced. If the bed survived, the fenders are an easy plug and play bolt on design.

Thing is, Tacomas, even with high miles still bring pretty respectable money.

The entire key to this is not letting the insurance total it and force it into a salvage type title. Thats why I suggest a better shop that can save it, vs total it.
    Obviously get a written estimate.

Btw, that front wheel being out of wack, these trucks have weak spindles, the off road guys bend stock ones without too much effort. That is part of the reason aftermarket companies have and sell gusset kits. The frame may not be that bad, pros need to evaluate it.

Or just take the big check, move on with your life, and get something better (doesn't have to be more expensive)

doesn't look that great of a truck. Objectively. I know. I have one. DCSB TRD Sport. That needs less work and is not flipped over on top of that. And I'm still not a big fan
