It is possible but a lot of work. There is a lot of writeups on how to do it. It will be a lot easier with a prerunner than a standard 2wd because it is a 4wd minus the tcase, front diff and hubs.

 

U wouldn't think a 98 Tacoma would be hard to find but around here where I'm at there very hard to find one that's not eat up with rust I'm gonna give the 2wd a shot if I can't make it 4wd I'll just find another transmission and leave it 2wd

 

how bad is the frame ? can you straighten it? can you chop a piece out of the donor frame and weld in place in the bend?
I've done a few rebuilds with bent frames, most were fixed with a porta power and a come along. It mainly just depends on where its bent or tweaked at.
sounds like it would be a lot easier to deal with the frame issue and swap a cab then convert a 2 wheel drive
