6inch lift sitting on bilstein coilovers. Lexus is300 studs in front to keep stock wheels, general grabber red letters, nfab front bumper.
If you look at the pics the center of the wheel is still bolted to the hub. It has nothing to do with bearing failure

What in thee hell? That would piss me right off. Did he also ticket the fire truck for illegal parking? Where'd he park his cruiser while he was on scene? Citizen's arrest!!

All joking aside, glad you're okay man. RIP Taco.

Could have been a lot worse.

IMO save your lawyer money. That pic showing the tire pretty much sums it up. That dirt got in the bead for one reason, it was still attached to the truck when the tire dug in to the grass, flexed and the rim dug in and snapped it at the hub. Had the wheel catastrophically failed and separated from the vehicle it would have just rolled and bounced.

As for the tickets, par for the course. If you rearend someone, whether they intentionally lock up their brakes or not, you are at fault. Will either get a following too closely or if the weather was anything but dry, driving too fast for conditions.

Hopefully your insurance does you right.

Bring your rims to a failure analysis lab. They will be able to find out if there were contaminates in the metallurgy or some other mfg defect that created the failure. In parrelel you might want to have a conversation with a lawyer about what potential lawsuit you have against the manufacture. Mostly to change the manufacturing process so it doesn't happen again. Good luck

I understand that by looking at picture. But got to win in court one battle at a time. Got to defeat officers claim first.

Maybe you should sue your Dad also.

    /sarcasm

A broken wheel in a rollover accident is common as dirt. Never going to win a law suit with what I have read so far.

The officer is not an ase certified mechanic. He wouldn't know a bad bearing from a hole in his ass.

That's sensible, easy to see worn tires. Evaluating the wheel bearings in a ditch on the side of the road, and coming to the conclusion just by looking at them and the circumstances - there's little credibility that a police officer can say your wheel bearing was bad, therefore I'm giving you a ticket for it.

    i smell something fishy here.

If you did in fact have a wheel break like that... there would be HUUUUGE gouges in the asphalt where it drug that side across the ground.

You would also likely have severe damage to the truck right at the lower front corner of the passenger door as the tire rolled back into the firewall / cab mount, None of which i see.

Possibly , and cities are in business to make money ultimately .They punish you for having a unsafe vehicle in a accident by fines . So that next time you think in your head "hey if I do such and such again I'm going to get a hefty fine" . If a cop pulls you over and finds your vehicle unsafe in his eyes he can have it towed or cite you for the problem . He won't let you drive a unsafe vehicle .

There is no way for the cop to tell if a wheel bearing is bad or at fault . If they see something wrong with the vehicle (I.e. Bald tires, tinted windows, tail lights out , etc ) they can cite you and or tow it (I mean in general , not this case in question)

I agree totally. But still one court battle at a time. Apparently he never walked around an looked at hub. Or he didn't know what he was looking out. It appears that charge will not get past first court date. But, still got to go there first.

Good observation Holmes. A splendid deduction, sir!

Also, for the wheel to be 20' away in the ditch (makes it sound like the same side of the road to me), that would not happen is the wheel failed as the initial cause. A rogue wheel would have carried on roughly in the original direction of travel until it hit something or lost momentum and fell over.

Now the real question, why did the truck veer left? I'd say have a qualified mechanic inspect it to see if there is evidence of mechanical failure somewhere else, especially in light of the recent front end work. Did you install the coilovers yourself? Take it for alignment after?

Finally, glad you are OK Ty, and nobody else got tangled up in the incident. No point me preaching about belting in, if this hasn't convinced you, I sure as heck won't be able to.;)

The Officer never claimed to have inspected the bearing I assume. To quote the OP:

" Edit: The report also states that I said that my bearings were bad but I never stated this ... "
