The noise and warning is normal. I'd just use the handbrake and gentle on the accelerator.

Why? I agree. However, the "feature" works as designed. He assumed it works differently. I have yet to use it but I know how and why it works the way it does.
For future reference, nobody, and I mean nobody, gets any vehicle exactly like they want, because those vehicles don't exist. Everyone is different and gets something close to what they want or can afford.
Lastly, "marketing" did not affect my buying decision. Research and personal experience did. There is a reason I have two Hondas and a Toyota in my driveway, and not a Jeep and a Kia or Ford.

Only helps you to get started on a hill or incline. To give you a few seconds from taking your foot off the brake and on to the throttle to keep you from rolling back, it takes some getting use to but I agree using the parking brake is a lot easier.IMG_0035.jpg IMG_0034.jpg

All I know is it applies automatically with the auto trans on my trd trim. (Hold the brake on an incline for a second or so and let off the brakes and they hold until you give it gas. I haven't tested to see how long it will hold though.) I assume it works on multiple trims as it's a safety feature.

I think it goes like this:

all trucks with an automatic transmission except the TRD Off-road and Pro: doesn't allow any backwards motion

TRD Off-road and Pro trucks with an automatic transmission: allows some backwards motion to help in off-road contexts

all trucks with a manual transmission: allows infinite backwards motion (I'm not sure this includes the TRD Sport 6mt)

Push the overhead button on the left I believe, hold it for 2 seconds or more and it shuts all that stuff off. But push it back in once you get moving.
I think you may also be able to just push it in, and you’ll see two yellow cautions on you dash letting you know something is deactivated.. the longer hold switches something else off.
