Did a bit of snow hiking on Thursday up on Hwy2, had about 6 inches dumped on her while I was going up a washed out road. Then on Saturday headed up to Rainier with the Wife and Kiddos. Lots of snow up there.

Have you used the auto tracs? Was also looking at them the other day.

Wasn't necessary, I did a test fit in my driveway and that's about it. I'll need to find some deeper snow to play in to test them properly.

I took her out into the snow. Not bad. Still didn't need the chains, though.

Hit the long beach at Ocean Shores. Fun on the packed stuff, the soft stuff is interesting to drive in.

    New truck cap came in!
Thing was missing some gaskets on the back door so it's a little leaky though... dealer doesn't have them in yet either.

    Short update.

I had a little bit of engine trouble. Burning oil, noticed when I was doing a quick run up Tonga ridge.

Which, btw, details how inadequate the stock tires are for that sort of thing. 4L+ATRAC but it didn't matter, couldn't climb up the icy banks in the tracks of the trail worth crap, just slid down the track repeatedly. Turned back about a half mile in. Or maybe I need chains on all four tires. Dunno.

I'll try again with more melt / better tires later.

Updates on the engine in the engine thread.

Had it in the shop for the 5k service, the loaner was a Frontier SV 4x4. Eww. 2000 called, wants it's truck back. The interior is a full step worse than the 2nd gen, and we know how much that was... um, old. Cozy, but old. Like pappy's couch.

Got my truck back today, back in love with the interior. And exterior. And everything, really. HA! Right?

Yeah. Which is good, since if they have to replace the short block it'll be a week without...

Definitely. I don't like having issues on new vehicles.

Took the wifey on a few trails today. She liked it. :D

Definitely need better recovery gear before we go deeper up the snowy woods, though.

Do you need to know, or care?
You would have to take it up in the mountains, cause like us here in Vancouver, the snow falls as liquid white, at least so far. It's been a while since we've had a decent snowfall. I'd say at least 7 or 8 years. We had to truck the snow in for the olympics in 2010, since then nothing has stuck on the ground.

Can you post link to your engine thread? And one option to look at for sliders is All-Pro Offroads APEX bolt on sliders. Super stout and look great! Plus lots of knowledge and experience about off-roading!
Couple pics of them on my truck

Took it in at 4.8k, they started an oil consumption test, need to take it back in at 5.8k, then if the results hold from the other person, maybe a short block replace.

    So, yeah, TBD.
