@Puppypunter and @svermilyea are my go to’s but I think neither has hands on with ABC. I’ve been contemplating this one myself as my front and rear camera arrived today and my 4660 is aching to be installed. Where did you put the switch? Or is there a switch?

my understanding of how it’s all supposed to work is that the reverse lead to the head unit is triggered leading to video interrupt. Things to check would include camera power (6 or 12?) and that proper camera RCA connections are made for the video signal.

In a pinch you can test with any display capable of receiving RCA video input to test / diagnose. I got my Germes going on the bench using a 12v power supply and my garage TV.

This is all controlled by a small controller, switching is done through the buttons. I have my old harness for just the backup camera. Need to find it though

    Steering wheel buttons?

I’ve been meaning to ask how hard it is to find one like yours in my color. I assume extremely difficult.

Do you mind linking the kit?

Messed with the radio a bit more today. I’m stumped. Until I get ahold of someone at corporate I know the anytime unit is working properly, the receiver is getting reverse signal, but no image. The screen just stays on the Home Screen. So until I can access the debug menu (that isn’t listed on how you get to for this radio on TIS) I can’t do much.

Multiple people have upgraded 2017 Toyota 86s and had operational backup cameras. So it’s capable. But I just can’t figure out how.

I'm no help on your issue, but just went through some schooling on upgrading an older vehicle's stereo system with a modern aftermarket head unit. We gave my daughter our old '06 4Runner (V8 with 70K on it, so we are keeping it in the family), and the aftermarket stereo and speakers I installed several years ago were on the fritz, so I got her a new Pioneer NEX model with Android Auto since she does everything on her phone. I didn't know you had to trick it into thinking the parking brake was on just to get it to go through setup, and the steering wheel adapter I previously used didn't work with the new radio. So, I kind of ended up doing the install twice after getting a new Axxess adapter and a switch off of Amazon to fake the parking brake signal. No cameras to mess with, but I can see doing something similar. Lots of empty blanks I could use still.

She loves the Android Auto, it is pretty slick.

I’m going to see if the parking brake is required but I have a feeling I’ve got something else odd going on.

It wouldn't make much sense to have to have the parking brake on AND be in reverse, so I concur, likely something else going on. Are you sure the camera is powered and outputting a signal? I know you said you can hear the relays, and it is pretty simple to trigger the Reverse line, but the screen may only switch once it sees a video signal.

Not sure why I am telling you this, you're the professional, lol.

LOL any potential leads helps. But I removed the radio and put the old one back in and it all still works. Just something funky going on. I need to find an 17 Toyota 86 and see if it’s backup camera works with my radio. I may need to source and OEM camera.

installed my junkyard injectors for the 12 hole mod. will monitor fuel trims and if i feel any differences. Also installed my long awaited battery. truck fires up quick now!

next step is the wiring upgrade and finally wiring up the 3rd brake light i keep putting off. then its back to trying to figure out my backup camera (which i did confirm works on a 17 tacoma. sooo its something with the tundra. not the radio.)

Finally have a working 3rd brake light and have the wires for a reverse light to be added too taped up for now. Thanks to @Puppypunter t harness I’ve been putting off installing. I used a 4 pin o2 sensor plug to make it easier to remove something if the need arises too.

Car traded in with fancy sound system. To certify it, needed to be removed. Got paid to remove said sound system (except the really nice JL speakers). Gained a Rockford fosgate 50wx4 amp.. tundras getting an amp installed when I have time. [IMG]

also have JBA long tubes en route. New motor mounts, new p/s lines, and a bug 2 upgrade to do still. VF tuners new version also opens the doors for my 4.7 now. So soon she will be making a fair bit more power, and apparently have a better sound system

Sweet! I kind of wondered what sometimes happens with stuff on trade-ins. I put an aftermarket system in my '09 - the OEM head unit was possessed, and it actually spontaneously ejected the CD as I was pulling into the dealer to get the first warranty replacement. Second one freaked out, so I replaced it all. When I traded it in, the guy just wanted me to bring in the OEM head unit so they could do CPO on it. BUT, they wanted me to leave all the stuff as part of the deal (I offered to swap it back to stock myself).

Usually it’s left alone. But this case guy half uninstalled the system. Car was a 2020 repo. Had to rewire the back of the radio since they hacked up the harness

Yeah, I figured it made them a bit nervous when I said I could swap it back to stock. I go out of my way to not hack up harnesses, it's just so cheap and much easier to get the adapters. But I guess if it is a repo, the PO going in and hacking out what he can sounds about right.

    How's the camera debugging going?

How do you typically fix it? Splice in pre crimped pigtails or crimp direct to wire if long enough or replace large sections of harness (seems painful)? If splicing, and detail on the method used?

No time to mess with the camera yet. Need to add a 12v ignition to the 28 pin and see if that brings it to life

Consistent 1mpg gain that I’ve noticed. No noticable power difference but idle is smoother.

this can be directly tied to clean injectors vs dirty. I’ll know more when I get the stocks tested
