Went out to my truck yesterday and found out the driver's side roof moulding is missing. Not sure if it fell off going down the highway or if someone took it off.
So, I was going to just replace it but now I'm thinking that I may get a OEM Roof Rack. The cheapest I can find is 258 w/ shipping. Of course the stealership wants 295 so I can't just go down and pick up unless I want to fork over another 50 dollars.

Mine came loose on 09. I was on the hwy and heard a thump on the roof. I pulled over and was barely attached on back side. Fortunately under warranty. 6 months later while standing on ATV on trailer I noticed several small dents. Took it to dealer and they fixed with no questions.

Get an OEM roof rack. Won't regret it.

That is what I am leaning toward. With the smaller bed, the roof rack will make up for the space, plus it looks pretty good.

Didn't hear or see it come off which leads me to believe that someone took it. Wouldn't think that is all that worth taking but who knows. Could have come off w/out making noise. Either way, its off.

Which dealers parts dept did you try? Tons of options in our area, I'd call around and see if they can beat the price

Mine was barely hanging on. It good have easily just come off completely with no noise. Probably would have if I had been going faster.

Also I hear the roof racks create drag lowering MPGs. Not sure that is true with the Tacoma's.

The Tacoma loses MPG even just thinking about something heavy.

The moulding is known for coming off, usually on a highway or in a car wash.

Not worried about the drag. Even w/ the crossbars, I don't think it would create enough to be too noticeable.

Bought one online on Sunday. Should have it by this weekend so I'll put it in on Sat or Sun.

FWIW, there is a TSB about these mouldings. I beleive there has been an updated design or something to correct them coming loose at the aft corner.

    Mine were covered under warranty.
