Has this been done.????? I have an awesome invision of a roof rack on top of the cab of an extended cab TACOO!.. I can see it now with a shovel and a highlift jack mounted. Along with a Spare tire. It would be so sick, and it would Give you more rear end Clearence. (no tire) plus some extra bed space!!!!!

    anyone seen this before.??
Even just a basic rack for snowboards would be an awesome thing.

Maybe no one has done this because thats what the bed is for. but i still think it would be bad as s s s s s s s

Thule and Yakima make quality setups that'll work for you. I've hauled 2 14' kayaks on a rooftop rack on my access cab without problems.

Didnt Toyota offer factory roof racks for the Tacoma? I see them occasionally.

I think the factory racks are only on the double cabs.

the question is how would you mount something like that on a 1st gen. because there is no suicide door with a rain gutter to attach too.

Mine just screws into my roof, which is not the best way to do it, but it works. Whatever you do, get a name brand rack. I tried to be cheap and get an offbrand one and now its impossible to find parts for it.

Just about nothing has rain gutters anymore. I think the dodge caravan was the last to have them.

If you look hard the red DC doesn't have them.

I think he's talking about what you use to see on the old landcrusers with the lights and tires on them.

I've seen one here and the guy made it. It would set you back about $1000 or more.

Here's a couple pics I have of a FrontRunner rack on a DC. FrontRunner makes an outstanding rack. This required some custom feet and mounting because the rack wasn't designed specifically for a Tacoma. Cost of production on these particular mounting feet wasn't cost effective so it's a one-off. Front Runner may be looking at other alternatives for mounting them on Tacomas.

Go to Yakima's website. You can plug in your vehicle and see if it will work. You can also just outfit your truck with a rack on their site and check their parts list against what you have to see if anything is missing.

got the hi-lift and shovel, but the spare's still under the bed. there's enough room to tossit up there though.

Edit: burried somewhere under the light rack and other stuff, is a Thule rack

not that i should make too much fun of him, the civic in the background was what i had at the time and the stereo, mtn bike, and roof rack cost more than the car.

This is perfect... ColinB your taco is sick.. thats exactly what i would want to put on the top of my 1st gen. Apparently your gen came with the locations to mount your rack.. i think i would have to rig something to make it work out on mine..
