Ok so I'm probably going to buy aftermarket roof racks for my dcab. Ideally I'd like to have a single rack with one bed rack but I have not found a good solution with the bakflip cover blocking the bedrails. So I am going with double racks on my roof.

Its probably going to be either thule or yakima, depending on which one will give me the best price.

I've read a bit about how people get a little bit of paint damage because of he way the racks (both thule and yakima) clip onto the roof in the doorjambs.

Can anyone tell me of their experiences? Any paint scratching? Any issues?

My 97 4runner had yakima racks that scratched the crap out of the paint.

I had a Thule rack w/ fairing on my 2006 DC year round for almost 5 yrs.
Never had any problems with paint rubbing, chipping, seals leaking.
It was used quite a bit for kayaks, ladders, lumber.
Every once in awhile I would check the towers, double check the landing pads.
Prior to installing I made sure I cleaned the areas really well so no containments or dirt was underneath.
That goes for the little pads on the fairing that hit the roof too.
I took the rack off when I sold the truck, you could not tell it was even there.
My only complaint was having to put some electric tape over the lock blanks in order to stop a whistle. The tape worked great.

thanks guys, super useful stuff. I'll have to look into the pricing for both locally. Hawaii makes everything more expensive. I will need to be hauling some lumber soon and racks just make it so much easier. I could haul all kinds of crap on my 4runner.
