Did a search and couldn't find anything.
    • Does the roof rack have to be installed at the factory?
    • Does anyone have the factory roof rack?
    • If so, do you like it? Pics?
    Thanks.

I have the factory rack on my 15 sport. Love it, handy and I like the way it folds back so it doesn't him and vibrate. That being said, I don't think it would be any good for more then a couple small kayaks. Not sure the weight rating but I like it. Not much of a pic. I like the way it raises the profile of the roof line also.

That looks pretty sharp. How is it attached?

The black groove in the roof on both sides. There's a rubber/plastic cap there. Had it installed with delivery. I have two small river kayaks and it's good to go.

Just installed mine by myself a month or so ago. Factory one as well, took about an hour or so. It's rated for 150 pounds I believe. I went with the Toyota one for form over function, I think it looks slick and I'm really not going to use it very much to be honest.

Oh, that looks easy enough. Assume I have to order through a dealer?

I'm not sure if the 2nd gen roof rack will fit the 3rd gen. You might have to ask the dealership about that. You can install the roof rack yourself in about an hours time. Its very simple if you follow the instructions well. It's only rated for 100lbs (not 150lbs like they said above) so you can't put much weight on these compared to other rack systems. They do look good and they don't make any noise when they're put into their "closed" position.

My 2016 was ordered with the roof rack from the factory. I like it and it gives me some options to overcome the short bed limitations.

I've never seen the factory rack on an access cab. Do they not fit?

Those who have the factory roof rack: If you have something long in the bed (say a 2x4) could you have one end on the floor of the bed back by the tailgate and lean it up against the roof rack to keep it off the roof?

I'll be getting a short bed and I'm trying to figure out how to manage with the 5' bed (DCLB is non-starter for me, each to their own).

    Thanks!

The roof rack will not protect your cab if you try to lean (say a 2x4) against it. I saw that another member tried to do that with a kayak and he ended up with a nice patch of scratches on the back edge of his cab. When I haul anything large I use a bed extender and lean (say a 2x4) from the front of the bed over the bed extender or tailgate. Ratchet strap it down using the D rings at the back of the bed and if needed attach a red/orange flag to the end.

Good to know. Thanks for the lowdown. I'll have to think about a bed extender.
