Hello all. I am looking at a Tacoma and it has an OEM roof rack. I'm not a big fan of them and would like to remove it. How difficult would that be? Is there anything I should be aware of? For the most part, it looks like removing some screws and putting back some rubber molding. If that is the case, it is possible to purchase the appropriate molding? There seems to be plenty of videos on how to install one, but not many on how to remove.

    Thanks in advance.

Yup, it’s easy to do. You’ll want to pick up the rubber inserts for the channels in the roof, and more importantly, you’ll want to seal the holes from the screw’s you removed. Silicone sealant should be adequate. Marine grade is probably best.

I would be in your shoes if mine had come with a rack. I put deposits down when I was looking... I told the salesman I would not take any truck that had the OEM rack - or any rack.

    - Of course, I would have likely taken it... But I would have removed it before anyone saw me... I am not a fan either.

Hi if you decide to buy the truck I would be interested in purchasing the roof rack from you.

you could probably trade, and maybe collect some funds, as the rack is surely much more than the moldings. I would check the Regional forums, as shipping probably isn't worth it.

Well, I decided against that particular truck. It was nice, but I think I would have ended up settling (other reasons not the roof rack). @tacomon22 - If I pick one up with the roof rack, I will certainly let you know.
