    Hi All,

I'm looking for roof rack suggestions for my 2018 double cab. The Prinsu rack seems to be the most recommended but I suspect that its more rack than what I need.

I would be using the rack five times per year at most usually to put a canoe on the roof. At the moment I don't have plans to be using it for anything other than that. Ideally it needs to be quiet and easily removable. I also want it to be as minimally invasive as possible (i.e. no drilling/cutting etc.).

    Thanks.

I just put a whole Yakima Jetstream System Roof Rack on mine. Love it, had an OEM version and got rid of it. Many options for attachments for the Yakima Rack.

I use the OEM, works great, very quiet when you are not using it. Can be found for ~$200.

I personally would not put more than 200lbs on the roof. Especially when you are driving and have a dynamic load on the stock insert threads

Only thing I don't like about the OEM Roof Rack is it's rated for 75 pounds for the 2nd Gen and 100 pounds for the 3rd Gen. And the rails are bowed so when you put a bike rack or whatever up there it leans to the right or left. New Yakima even and nice and straight plus up to 160 pounds of weight.

You are going to have trouble with the 'easily removable' part.

Personally I like Yakima, but for the 2008 I have, it required a bit of work to get to the mounting holes. I am pretty sure that hasn't changed all that much.

And I have a Prinsu clone for the back. And since pics are worth more than text...

Malone Versarail is an awesome affordable universal rack. Once you get the bars set, it takes all of 10 minutes to put it in or take it down.

You will have straps running through the doors, but since its only temporary its rarely an issue.

I've had a Thule rack with fairing on all 3 of my Toyota trucks 95, 06, and 13. Once you get it set up it takes only a couple of minutes to take off though I've had my 13's setup on for 6 years 100k without any issues. Every so often it's removed everything is safety checked & cleaned.

I like how the prinsu clone fits between the yakima cross bars. Where'd you get it?

I made it. You can see a few details here.

I use a router to shape everything, and there are a few significant defects, but nothing a file and some sandpaper (and possibly a grinder) won't fix.

To put it simply, my needs to fit a prinsu clone between crossbars was a requirement for me, and as such, I knew I would have to make my own.

I have Thule 400 roof rack. Its the older one. I love it and has i think a 165 lb weight capacity.

Prinsu is more than he needs..... But then you recommend one 2x the price.

Does this use the factory holes? I’m a longtime Thule owner, but their compatible rack uses the hooks in doors. I’m looking for something cleaner.

Nope it does not which to me is better, and removing it is quicker.
