I have a 295-70R17 on a 17x9 wheel that needs a place to reside as my spare.

I have zero interest in using the bed space or above it.

Anyone here put a rack on the cab and successfully (important criteria) mount a full-size spare?

I realize some garages will be no-go... don’t care....

Thank in advance for your helpful posts!

Why not just put it back underneath? Should fit with a little hammer work on the tire guides.

@dwaltdtx did it for a while, gas mileage will suffer and I don't envy you when you actually need the spare and have to pull 100lbs off the roof.

I used my factory spare tire hoist and bolted it to a cross tube. 35x12.50s fit with plenty of clearance. Only problem is you cant see shit out of the back.

That good info... thank you. The spare is quite heavy vs OEM.

You provide any thought on @crazysccrmd post?

If you bend the guides the tire will fit but you risk the rear diff contacting the tire when the axle gets stuffed

I was thinking something similar on the OEM tri-fold but the visibility went to zero

I’m concerned about getting it high enough... it’s a wide piece of rubber...

If you don't want the tire in your bed or above your bed the best option is a swingout bump or a Wilco hitchgate.

Think about how often you actually use your bed, my tire lays flat 95% of the time, gets stood up 4% of the time and thrown on top of what gets put in the bed the rest.

Bed gets used weekly for Costco runs, race car parts and mountain bike bar...
