Any recommendations on roof racks? Front runner, prinsu, or anything else? This will go on top of ARE cap, 6’ bed...

Prinsu all the way. And you could get a cab rack and a top rack (for your camper) for close to the price of FR. Others are probably just as functional but the Prinsu looks toughest on the truck, mine would look practically naked without its Prinsu hat!

Front runner is an incredible rack but I think they look weird in the way they stick up higher in more of a square platform look (though you get that little space you can slide chairs/tables with FR).

    Good luck

Front runner if you got the money especially with all the attachments they sell.

But prinsu if you're on a budget

I will say this I have a front runner on my cab and regret it a little bit because I need to get a rack for my topper but it's quite expensive

    Prinsu 100%

Front runner racks functional yes but they are ugly as homemade soap.

Someone said Prinsu (CBI) is announcing their black friday sale tomorrow.. if that’s true I’m definitely placing an order for the 6’ cap rack.

Really. If that’s the case. I will be putting in an order too. I’ll sell my factory roof rack to offset the price.

Thanks guys. I’m curious, do you need the factory rack (Thule) installed on a truck cap, the you put the prinsu rack on top of that?

So it looks like Prinsu is the consensus, but I'm curious, has anyone ever fabbed their own rack? Unfortunately I'm on an even tighter budget (college student :() and even the price for a prinsu seems high for a roof rack. Could a prinsu be more justifiable than welding up my own?

These are always my favorite questions, im a time=money guy. So if you figure steal is a cost of say 200$ then your time to weld, get the angles etc. Id be willing to bet your close/break even to the price of a prinsu. But to each there own, i love my prinsu and dont know how i ever camped/overlanded without it.

Can’t tell why you need it, but for light weight usage and (I think) looks, the OEM or OEM knock off crossbar rack might work. Ebay has them, including occasional used.

All aluminum, light bar or solid fairing, modular and have matching bed racks. I will also soon have a rack for on top of the canopy.

You just need the Thule or Yakima “rails”, not the actual cross bars themselves. I’ll need to get those installed.. the local shell dealer quoted me $200 for parts and install. Not too bad.

I'm fabricating my own right now. I liked the prisnu, but felt some design aspects could be improved upon..plus I wanted to save a little money. Mine is steel, but I'm in it around $200 in material. Prob close to $300 after powdercoating, and other little things. If you are a DIY'er I'd say go for it, otherwise it's much easier and time saving to purchase an off the shelf rack.

    Nothing worthy
    Prinsu no doubt.

Seen a front runner on a truck in person and looks like a table sitting up top.
Prinsu is sleek, strong and custom for this truck.
Had some issues and wind noise but all good now.

I've been making my own racks for years. Always get someone that wants to buy it so I sell and build another. It's not hard if you're patient and know a thing or two about fabrication.

If fab isn't your thing, you can always use @ERMB 's how-to thread and go to town. A bunch of people have successfully built their own racks using his guide:
