Roof racks

Any recommendations for an afforadable roof rack for DC? Budget is too tight for prinsu and I also don't have a month to wait for lead times. Are those Yakima roof baskets worth a damn?

 

I've been thinking about coming out with an open source roof rack like the prinsu and m-rack. I bet a local laser/waterjet company would cut the sides for less than 50 then some 80/20 extrusion and you could probably have a nice rack for less fraction of the cost.

Did you already draw it up? Haha. Have you seen m-rack (looks like kc lights bought them out or somthing) I like those designs big time, just the mark up is excessive for somthing that is very open source friendly. I'm surprised there aren't 50 people selling these.

 

Yes. I took all the dimensions and curvature of the roof and drew it. I wanted it to look as streamline and low profile as possible.(it sits only 1/4" off the rubber channel)
The Mrack is another solution and it's great more are coming to the market..but the front of it looks like it got rammed flat into a wall. And it's $$$$$
