does anyone know what cheap roof racks you can get that won’t affect my sun/moon roof from touching it. I’m afraid if I get a roof rack and I won’t be able to open my sun/moon roof without it pressing against the glass or worse breaking it. Thank you

Factory Toyota roof rack is a nice lightweight rack that fold up into the sides when not in use.

Gobi has an option, but not in the ‘cheap’ range. Prinsu next?

Sadly, keeping it European parking garage compliant.
Personally, I would go GOBI. Definitely not cheap. But I subscribe to the buy right, buy once idea.

Do you need to drill the roof for all the roof racks on the market or are their pre made holes?

All should be bolt on. There’s 5 factory threaded holes per side.

Not sure about that brand but if any requires you to drill or modify then I wouldn’t recommend it IMO

No need to drill for the rhino Rack Pioneer Platform, that’s what I have.

Frontrunner Slimeline 2 gets my vote. Lightweight and almost unlimited attachment options.

I'm looking at the vortex ditch mount. Rlt600. Has the mounts you can take on and off. Then put the Pioneer platform on top.

Can't have a full time one as I daily drive it and a roof rack will mean I can't fit in the underground I park at near work

Do you happen to have a few more pics of where it mounted etc?

I think drilling is a function of access can models? Double cabs have all the necessary hardware, but other models may not.

    PS,

Gobi has a really nice trim kit to fill in where the oem weather stripping is removed. I will admit that their rack seems a little short.

What do you want to use the roof rack for? if you're just transporting small boats like kayaks or canoes, then the OEM one seems capable and not budget breaking. If you're looking for something a little more rugged and engineered, then the other options people have suggested (Frontrunner or Prinsu) seem better, but likely will never get qualified as "cheap roof racks."

If you're really trying to be frugal, then you might be able to find a used Thule or Yakima setup, but likely will have to get new attachment feet specifically for the tacoma.

I have a Prinsu, and was concerned about contacting the sunroof too... I just had to arrange the crossbars so that one didn't sit immediately above where the end pivoted up so it doesn't contact it. The crossbars on the prinsu are quite adjustable.

Correct, if you search by title for Rhino Rack I did a write up on mine. Installed about 18 months ago shortly after I bought my truck. Zero issues.
