    Howdy all!

Pictures below, 2017 TRD OR in Quicksand located just above front windshield
Small spot of rust, Toyota service said probably wont cover under warranty

Thoughts? Options? Opinions? Really don't want it to spread
Is this something a shade tree mechanic/home could do?

Appears almost like a stone hit one area creating the rust, or the roof was poorly peeped when painted just going by that other spot.

I had to touch up a spot bigger than that from when a truck kicked up a hunk of something metal and it hit the top of the windshield. I think it was a trailer hitch.

Anyways, it looked the exact same on my truck, only my windshield is cracked too. You probably got hit by some gravel.

Did they explain why it wasn’t covered? Seems like it would meet criteria, unless they are saying that the roof sustained prior damage.

Supposedly with the simonize glass coat treatment plan i took was told if something like this occurs the plan would warranty it and paint the damaged area.

I had the same condition on the driver's side of my 2017 TRD Pro. I took it AutoNation Toyota in Irvine, CA when my vehicle had approximately 40K miles. AutoNation/Toyota declined to recover the rust repair under warranty as they claimed it was a result of a chip from road debris. At 64K miles I took the vehicle back to AutoNation when a second rust spot started to appear. AutoNation worked with Toyota and had a corporate Toyota representative inspect the vehicle. It took several months but Toyota repaired the vehicle under a "customer good will" gesture. The repair is extensive as they have to remove the windshield and paint the entire roof. I suggest you leave the condition as is and take it back to the dealer and request an inspection by a corporate representative.

Yeah that looks like a rock chip. I doubt the dealer will cover that. Scrape off the surface rust and touch it up with a paint pen.

Its a rock chip, dont feel too bad though it happened to me too the same day that I was driving my new 2020 Tacoma back home off the dealership lot, I didnt notice the rock chip on the roof until like 2-3 months after I already had the truck in my house and by that time it had already started to rust from all the rain. I am thinking of taking it to a body shop to see how much they quote me to fix it because I have other rock chips that I want them to touch up as well before they start to cause rust spots.

Heres a picture of the one on my roof: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-material-are-the-roofs-made-out-of.669987/#post-23517784

I also recently found one on my hood that looks similar and I have one on my tailgate and a few more on the passengers side front door. I only drove my truck twice so far (home from the dealership and the test drive).
