I've looked online but can't find very many rooftop tent bed racks for 1st Gen Tacomas. Anybody have any suggestions. I'm assuming the second gen and third gen bed racks won't fit in a first gen correct? Below is a picture of my truck and how it currently sits. Really would like to put a roof top tent on it in the near future. Yes there is a bed rack on it right now but I honestly don't think it's the right size for a tent. And yes some of you may know that I built it with my brother but right now building another one to fit a tent is out of the question.

You're far from new to this site; have you not just considered using your existing rack?

There are several companies that still offer racks for our trucks, not to mention a member that makes them @turbodb

However your best option is the cheapest one; use your existing rack.

Width and length of the top-most portion of your existing rack? It may work fine.

Honestly I can't remember off hand right now. I'm feeding my 9 month old daughter as we speak. As soon as she's done I'll run out to my garage and get measurements for you!

I would hit up @JLee over at bamf for a rack. They make a nice low profile rack. Will keep your rtt at a nice height. Plus there’s a few add ons you can go with. Getting one built myself.

Think you missed quoting/replying so hope this helps.

Btw RTTs generally stick out the way you described. A simple google search will show this; here's mine -

    20191016_200950.jpg

See how far it sticks out in regards to the rack itself? That's normal.

I totally see where you're coming from. It does hang out past the rack self. By any chance do you have the dimensions of the top of your rack?

You’ll be fine with your existing rack.
The mounting rails on my tepui for instance are 32” apart. My RCI rack as mounted is 47” wide x 45” long.

Just guna post this cuz we’re both running swing out tailgates:thumbsup:D0066E66-2931-4E9A-92BE-FA21EEF303D0.jpg

@Ak4T777 as @omegaman2 said your current rack should be fine as long as the tent you buy has mounting points that fit. Size of the tent does matter as seen below. FC5F6D9E-F06A-4CDA-8551-E94CFD9E1608.jpg

Find a new place for the spare, and mount the rtt to the rack you already have.

From what i understand, most rtts have a series of tracks that can mount to pretty much anything.

If you need to add a brace or two to help it fit better, sounds like you got the fabrication skills to make easy work of it.

It’s that, or spend serious coin on a whole new rack that isn’t going to be much different from this one.

If you call Frontrunner I think they can match up bed bars and a bedrack for our trucks from their other offerings. I know a few people on here have gone that route but can't remember who.

Totally fine mounting a RTT on those dimensions Our low pro racks are about the same dimensions. They only sit on the two mounting rails that are 27" to 29" apart.

I'd be more than happy to make a rack for ya - here are the details of it, and options you can get with it if you're interested. But like others have been saying, you should be fine with your rack should you decide to use it. Might put the tent a bit high (over the roofline) so you might get a bit of drag at highway speeds and raise the center of gravity a bit, but that's a personal preference.

Nice looking rig by the way.
