Good deal. Eventually I plan to build a trailer and move the RTT over to that, I've even got the plans drawn up for it already..... Just no time to actually build it.

I like the trailer idea- build it as you need, keep it low profile and you will have the DD with the shell, then the shell and trailer for all your needs when you go out.

So.. whats the point of the tent on top of your truck..? why not just set a tent up on the ground?

Depends on your usage. No fighting with rocks and whatnot on the ground. I for one like being up out of the mud and dirt, the wife loves being out of the bugs and snakes. And it's always great taking maybe 5 mins to setup camp and be crawling into a nice bed, mattress and all. :D

That said I still have 3 ground tents as well....

Tent is 120lbs. Haven't weighed the rack but I'd guess maybe 40-50 lbs. So really no worse than if someone was sitting on your roof, I doubt that short of extreme side angles it will be noticeable. Even with no sway bar I don't notice a difference on the road.

I figured that would be why. Just it seems silly I guess to spend $1000 or more on a tent that you need a rack for just so you dont have to sleep on the ground. That said I would like one... :D

I think parking in a shallow creek, setting up camp, and sleeping in the RTT would be fking BA.

I'm going to do this when I get mine...

Trying to decide if I jump on the RTT a couple hours from me for $500 on Craigslist... It's a "Skydome"... never heard anything about it...

What happens when it storms in the middle of the night and you get washed away in a flash flood?

Does anybody have a roof top tent mounted on an OEM roof rack?
Also, does anybody know the load capacity of the OEM roof rack? I called the dealer and they don't have a clue. Said they would have to do some (research) and call me back....Ha!

Nevermind....Dealer called back...Only 100lb capacity so I won't be going with and OEM rack to mount a rooftop tent.

There are several roof-rack tent setups made for Jeeps.
Might be worth looking at to see if any could be adapted easily.

I have my RTT mounted on a Thule 422XT adjustable bed rack. After using a RTT a few times-I will never use a ground tent again. It's the only way to camp.:D

Oh wow! This looks so much more versatile and sturdy than the roof rack I was going to get for my camper shell. How would I go about getting something like this? Is this something that has to be custom made to make sure it goes around the shell?

I'd say trade your 100R for a 100RCC with the Dewalt rack. Rooftop camping was the primary reason I bought this shell and here's my setup in action. I have the Maggiolina Airland with changing room from Autohome. The changing room is a must because I also use it as a place to take a shower if I'm camping where other people are around who may not care for me being quite that 'natural' in front of them. Autohome's products are built to last, but you do need to bring your wallet as their real proud of their stuff. Here's their Italian (home) site which shows more models/options than their US site (for whatever reason). Because they're made in Europe, you might need to order a couple months in advance if they don't have it here in stock.

Looked at their site, says it's rated for 400 lbs. Since even light weight mombasa is 120lbs, and I alone am north of 200 by an amount I don't want to admit. I'd be a little weary of puttting 2 people plus a tent up there.

I don't have a truck yet (Just sold my LX450 on 37's), but am looking for a double cab and have been contemplating this very issue. On top of the cap would be nice, but worry about the weight. Searching for on the roof options too. It seems if you don't already have 2 grand into a cap, and another 1-3 grand into a RTT, the Flippac starts looking good.
