A buddy picked up a dealer-modded TRD Sport that has the roof wrapped matte black.
Upon taking delivery in a thunderstorm, his wife felt water dripping on her in the back seat. They left the truck for me to sort out today. Turns out the center brake/cargo lamp seal does not like being re-used.
$155 for a new light assembly, plus a few hours labor for swapping out the rear seats and cleaning up a bit of water. I have a feeling this is the last time that shop makes this mistake.

For anyone planning on getting their roof done, make sure they do a good job re-sealing the brake lamp. They come with a foam tape pre-installed. I'm sure I could seal it with some silicone, but that's just not right.

Do you need to know, or care?
Thanks for the advice, will keep it in mind if we have to pull the assembly. Sharing info like this is valuable, much appreciated!

I have an SR5 with the standard brake lamp, which i believe has a rubber gasket instead of the foam. They also mount from the outside, not from within the headliner like the clear light does.
They also don't appear to be interchangeable.

For $155, I would have just bought some foam tape or rubber gasket material and replaced just that for about 10 bucks. Thanks for the heads up, though!

The truck was never even delivered.
So we charged the shop that did the vinyl wrap and are doing it right. It's a brand new truck.
Something tells me my dealership will be using a different shop in the future for these custom jobs.

It also has a lightbar in the lower grill. $650 option offered through here.
I instantly assumed the Rigid mounts with eBay/Amazon lightbar. Nope. No-name eBay bar with the most heinous mounting job I've ever seen. I'm ashamed of it, and I had nothing to do with it.

Are y'all going to take the junk light bar and mount out and do it right? I think it's a good option to offer, but on a new truck it should be atleast quality mounts and a half assed decent bar.

Unrelated but do you work at a dealership? Just the way you're talking about "my dealership" makes it sound like you do lol. Just curious

yes, i work at a dealership as a technician.

I'm going to speak with the sales managers about offering a lightbar in-house, done properly with a decent looking switch and wired correctly.
i'll try to snag a decent picture of it once i get to work. its basically just a "stealth install" 30 inch bar in the lower grill similar to what everyone seems to be doing.

Sweet man, the dealer here in Anchorage AK used to put Rigid Lights on all of their custom trucks but recently went a step higher and started putting in Baja Designs light bars, super clean installs as well even though they use the cheap little switches that come with the lights and not an OE style switch

the worst part about the switch install is that the shop drilled a hole into the trim piece with the switch blanks in it, instead of drilling out a $2 switch blank.

Yeah that's what the dealer up here that I bought my truck does, not for me. For my lights I like OEM style switches, so I just knock out the blanks and install a switch that keeps it looking factory

I was going to have my cab roof wrapped. I think I'll just continue waxing it. After all a man could buy allot of wax for what a wrap job cost.

What's the benefit of doing that? Is it just for looks? I'd think it would get torn up pretty easily by tree branches.

That doesn't answer my question. Is it for protection or just for looks?
