Let me first introduce myself as a new member here! I've been lurking for about a month, reading, absorbing everything. I've never been a 'car guy' despite my father being a mechanic back in the day. Never had any interest in cars. This about summarizes my childhood:

    Image-1.jpg

But since becoming a Tacoma owner about a month ago, I'm in deep. Loving this thing. Still know very little, but absorbing new stuff daily.

Though it wasn't the only reason I chose it, I liked this 2019 Tacoma Off Road because it was lifted higher than the Sport that I was comparing it to at the dealer:

    upload_2019-11-23_19-25-37.jpg
It's got Bilstein 5100s and the dealer said it had some suspension lift.

Anyway, to my question I'm hoping some of you can help me with...I'm considering adding 265/75/16 tires (don't mind the look of the stock wheels) to beef it up a bit, and don't necessarily need an additional lift, but if I do consider a lift, would this be lifted further on the suspension, or would I be purchasing a lift kit with spacers/blocks, etc? (forgive me if I'm using the wrong terminology, I'm learning)

I guess I'd also like to know, since I'm considering a bed rack and a roof top tent (I do know the pros/cons of RTTs well), should I add the additional weight of these first, then get a lift, so that I know how much lift to get? I certainly don't want to get any bed sag.

Any advice would be appreciated. Loving the forums! Nice bunch of people here.

I can tell you right now the rear does not have 5100s and the front looks pretty stock height to me. I don't follow your question entirely...if you add new tires, you aren't doing anything to the suspension. If you need additional lift to help clear the tires, you could get spacers to get some lift. Most don't recommend them, but if you don't do any real offroading they would probably be fine and cost effective.

If you only have stock suspension in the front, your only option is spacers to get more lift. If you do have 5100s, you could bump them up a notch or get the correct length coils for how much lift you want.

This guy is speaking truth. Also id say add weight first, assess sag, then upgrade suspension

Perhaps I didn't state my question well, I realize the tire change would not have anything to do with suspension and that I would not need a lift with those tires. Thanks.

Definitely some sage advice, thanks. I do have plenty of camping and backcountry experience and I'm not looking to crawl any rocks. More research is always a good idea.

I think the dealer mispoke definately looks like stock bilsteins on your truck, and just FYI the Sport and Offroad sit at the same height stock.

You can fit 265/75r16s on your truck but your options will be limited to E rated, though I think theres a few that arent now (nitto and falken). Since you thought you had 5100's you could add those to get another 1-2.5'' of lift, I would advise against going with spacers as you mentioned. I would also say spend some more time here maybe in the suspension section, there are SO MANY options from $200 to thousands of dollars to lift your truck. I would also consider why you want to lift it and do you really need it. It will come with excess wear on drivetrain and components along with potential issues, but if thats something you willing to sacrifice for say just the look then go for it. But a set of good tires and some gear will get you almost anywhere that a lifted truck would.

    Welcome and good luck!

I don't know, I looked at them literally side-by-side and this OR was noticeably higher than the Sport I was looking at.

They are the same height, could have been the level of the ground, perspective, etc.

Please don't. Look how many of these trucks I've owned, look at the Toyota website on the specs for both, or the fact multiple people have said they are the same height here. THEY ARE THE SAME HEIGHT STOCK.

For pointing out you're misconception? Look at a few posts back where I gave you my insight into your question on tires and lift. Just saying you are trying to argue an incorrect point is all. Let us know if you have more questions on lift, tires, etc. but can assure you they sit at the same height stock.

Stock vs 5100, from your picture looks like you're sitting on stock suspension (which is more than capable) notice the blue/yellow vs chrome.

The dealership misinformed you. Those are the OEM shocks in the back, (Not 5100's) and your front looks stock height, not lifted.

You can put 265/75/16 without a lift, without issue. I've got 265/75/16 C load Duratracs, and love 'em. Only regret is they don't come in a 255/80/16 or 255/85/16

Just lift it and put 33's. You'll be good after that.

You're right. I'd prefer not to lift it in the end anyway. Thanks for the input on the tires, I do like the way the Duratracs look and it sounds like performance is quite respectable.

These dudes are trying to help you out. Don't be upset because the dealership gave you wrong information. Your truck is not on 5100s, plain as that. The OR and S are the at the same factory height. That's it.
