This is a Roostfactor tuned equal length custom Y-pipe. Model JFR TE1 Serial #3. This is the bad of the bad, trickiest of all my parts on my truck, right there with my supercharger. I just love it! Pictures do not do it justice, you have to see it in person to see the complete beauty of it. Here is another picture of it installed on my truck to the stock manifolds which will be switched out to URD equal length headers in the near future. If you look closely you can see the quality of the materials and workmanship. He even used completely insane finned bungs for the sensors. Everything is first class, from the v bands, merge collector, flanges, you name it, all the details and then some are there.

You might remember seeing pics of the prototype of this pipe back in late May in the supercharger tricks and tips thread (Post 4734). Some of us expressed interest in this in which Roosty reached out to us and here is the finished product:

    Killer finned bungs!

Crazy pic, but you can see almost the whole pipe.

I’m lucky enough to live two hours away from Roostfactor, so when I got there we (I say we,lol) installed his Y-pipe and a 3” URD mark3 catback exhaust with a high flow cat right behind the flex pipe. My truck has the trd flash, 2.85 pulley, afe stage 2 intake, 70mm throttle body, and Walbro 255 pump. When the Y-pipe and mark 3 exhaust was installed the truck pulled considerably harder throughout the range. Boost went down from 8psi to 7, afr’s went from around 10.7 to 11.2 or 3, and there is no rasp. Flow is definitely up and I’m not pressing down on the pedal as much when cruising. Even at very slow speeds it seems effortless. My truck had only the intake mods, so these new exhaust mods obviously were needed to compliment the whole package. The three inch exhaust definitely opened up the exhaust end but where Y-pipe shines is how smooth, clean, and pure the engine feels and sounds. My afrs seem more stable and not so erratic. I think all of this is due to Roostfactor tuning the length just right where the exhaust is not fighting itself. It just works. I will stop right there because Roosty is way more knowledgeable about all this and can explain things very precisely and vividly. I thoroughly enjoyed my day with him and his family. Roostfactor is first class and it shows in all the details and care that goes into all of his projects. We as a community are lucky to have him helping and providing us all of his knowledge and skills. I just know his Y-pipe is a work of art and cannot be had unless it is hand made like this. I saw first hand how he makes them and the level of care and precision in each step is epic. Thank you Roostfactor!!

but we need sound clips..... driving, under load.
not those lamedick type where ppl throw a phone next to the exhaust dump and rev the truck... those are useless.

I had one awhile back in the supercharger tips and tricks thread when showing intercooler temps but you could only really hear the sc.

Thank you @5thGearPinned! It was a fun day!

I will add to this since the cats out of the bag now. I originally had started a private conversation and invited a few interested members. I kept it private because I didnt know how the general population would react to the price of this. Anyway, here is the info from my first post in that original conversation.

    "Good morning gentlemen,

Since you guys have shown interest in this, let me give you a little history of my y-pipe quest. I first attempted to get URD's Spec-U equal length y-pipe but he had discontinued making them because some people had serious droning issues. I already had his equal length headers and I fully understand the benefits of extending the equal length header through another equal length set of tubes to an efficient merge collector. But, the big factor is length. There are very specific lengths that need to be determined in order to maximize the exhaust scavenging effect. If the incorrect length is used then you can actually hurt performance because the negative exhaust pressure waves will not be timed correctly to help pull the exhaust out of the cylinder when the exhaust valve opens.

URD's Spec-U system did not capitalize on this effect although his system was still equal length. He is more into mass manufacturing and has to cater to a larger audience. So his system doesn't merge until behind the transfer case which is way to long for the secondary tubes.

Anyway, I was determined to have an equal length system of the proper tuned length so I went out and bought a TIG welder, belt sander, band saw, etc. I also purchased exhaust tuning software to assist me in determining the ideal diameters and lengths. What you have seen in the thread is the result of my efforts. I never planned on making more than one of these, it was just a project that I did for myself as a hobby, then I did @loginfailed's with some trade as he wasn't happy with his exhaust. I spent an immense amount of time trying to figure out how I was going to fit the correct length y-pipe in the available space while still having access to the transmission drain and level check bolts and still have ground clearance. What you have seen is the culmination of those efforts.

In order for me to make more of these, I have to remove my y-pipe and custom fit each mandrel bend, mark it, take it to the welder and tack it, then take it back to the truck to check fitment. Then I have to figure out the exact bend or length of tubing for the next section, cut it, sand the edge perfectly flat, fit and mark it on the truck, and tack it. This cycle repeats for every cut and bend in the system so it is a very timely process. I am not a professional at this, I just do it out of my garage and just the materials are more expensive than most people realize. $40 just for 4 O2 bungs, Vibrant merge collector is now $95, over $40 for 2 flanges, $35 for a 3" vband, etc. This is not even taking into account the cost of mandrel bends or welding materials. The list goes on.....

With this in mind, if you want me to make you one of these, the cost will be $1000 plus shipping. I will need a $500 deposit from each person prior to building these for two reasons. One, to help me buy materials, and two to ensure your vested interest so I don't get stuck trying to sell a rare one off part that is only marketable to a small audience.

    Some things to consider:

    1. This will mate up to the URD Spec-U headers as that is what I have. It will mount up to the factory manifolds or any other header you have but I have not tested fitment on anything but the Spec-U headers and factory manifolds.
    2. You have to use a different header to y-pipe flange gasket (will be included) since I could only find flat flanges unlike the factory recessed flanges.
    3. The rear cats will be removed so it will not be street legal. Off road use only (disclaimer).
    4. It will not mount up directly to any stock or aftermarket rear exhaust. My y-pipe is a different length and will come with a 3" v-band flange welded on the y-pipe. I will provide the other side of the v-band flange and clamp for you to fit or have fitted to your existing exhaust.
    5. You will have to purchase and install a flex pipe to your exhaust because the v-band does NOT allow for any flex like the factory connection does.

Please let me know either way if you are going to commit to this and I will provide my Paypal.

If you have any other questions on anything I may not have covered let me know."

So there is the story. I still have a few more to make from the original orderer's and am not sure if I will be making any more in the future.

If you are serious in purchasing one please send me a pm and I'll see what I can do.

4Runner might need a slight tweak on the design due to tuned length requirement. What is your estimated hp and or hp goals?
I also dont know if the crossmember is in the same spot?

Its is a bit different but not by much. Current power level I am not sure, @Torspd has a better idea than I desired power I would say 400-500 at the wheels however I am still deciding on boosting method leaning more torwards turbo.

While I can certainly appreciate the hand crafted beauty of it I think the price tag is going to run a lot of potential buyers off as they're used to mass-produced options. I think the real genius lies in the design than the fabrication for many who care more about performance than how their exhaust looks. To that end, why not use one of these you created to have them mass-produced in the same manner other vendors sell their own exhaust? Once a jig is created they can be cranked out much faster which will cut down list price immensely and maintain the same profit margins for you plus give you your time back. Just a thought since I would fall in the category of one who doesn't put much value in how the exhaust components of his pick-up looks but would love that added performance at a reasonable price tag.

But man that thing is beautiful. Great work!

I agree with you. I had never intended this to be a mass produced item and I imagine at some point someone will end up stealing the design and possibly profit from it. This has been a really fun hobby for me and has become a great way for me to gain proficiency in welding and fabrication while also providing a high quality limited edition and truly performance enhancing item.

That someone might as well be you and you might as well profit from your design by beating someone else to the punch. You've done the R&D now you might as well utilize the design to recoup your time investment if the market is there.
