Makes me think about looking for some marine grade tie downs.

i forgot to ask if you had any difficulties removing them the first time? crusty threads?
just a standard #4 phillips is what I think is best to take them out? without stripping ... tried with a #3 but screw started stripping out so i stopped
did the taillights need to be removed? ... was told I might have to take those out to undo them by someone that has never taken them out before

@GQ7227 you've been in the 3rd gen section too long now to post something like this :crapstorm:

If it were me, I'd leave them and have them bed lined.

Oh, and first gen best gen.

I'm in CA, where every car costs at least 400/year and trucks are nearly double that.

I'll tell you what my 2009 Corvette registration costs later, cause I just got the DMV renewal notice 2-3 days ago.

Cost me almost $300 to get my 04 registered last December. And this year I have to get the STAR smog test done, not looking forward to that.

after another discussion with the LineX guy the best looking option is to take them off and get powdercoated

until a TW fabricator wants to make a top-notch batch out of longer lasting climate-neutral material for a possible group buy?

now just gotta see how difficult they wrench off back there without stripping

Mine wouldn't budge with just a screwdriver by hand. The heads on the flat head screws (countersink) are serrated so they grip tight. I used a #4 bit in a ratchet, the leverage of the long handle made them easy to remove without any stripping. Also used the ratchet to reinstall them tight. Threads on mine were fine, no corrosion, but I applied some anti-seize when I reinstalled them anyway. I didn't remove my tail lights, I don't see why you would even need to.

Powdercoat or custom made ones? You're overthinking this way too much IMO. They're just tie down loops, why waste all that money for something that will get scratched? Just rattle can them & call it a day. Unless you have a show truck & don't use them. I use mine.

was told to remove taillights to see if a box wrench or something like that was needed to hold the nut on other side, they were just guessing that these were factory installed with the sides off of the box

i have never been able to use them for much, since they were buried deep behind plastic liner and had to finger feed any rope or heavy duty pull string, always went ghetto with dropcloth and tons of bricks!

these 1st gen rope hooks are unique!
I looked through the entire index of the LineX after market catalog and didn't see krap!
mostly geared towards the detroit trucks

No need to hold the "nut" on the otherside, if you do, then either you have serious rust issues or they broke off. The "nuts" are welded to the sheet metal.

If it did, I don't see how you would even access the backside for the ones on the front end of the bed.
