Oh - you mean ferrous. meaning they're likely mild steel. (misleading)

You could just have them clear zinc plated or nickel plated for cheap.

yes but that may only be because they have been under 'shelter' for 2+ decades (covered behind an over-the-rail plastic liner, not covered completely but not easily accessible)
that liner is gone and now they will be exposed to rain, sleet, snow, and probably other winter elements in the air

... following up, in case anybody has interest, i just got a new screw for the one that broke trying to remove

    the part # is
90149-80034 and was 87c at camelback

Wow!, you were able to purchase from Camelback!! They shit on me so fast, and don’t give a shit about us @ Tacomaworld it sucks. I can usually only talk to Gary’s Secretary, and she orders the wrong stuff. I had to get refunded from them taking weeks and not shipping. I recently ordered some stuff @ my dealer and get it next day, no more Camelback drama for me, lmfao.

i ordered online this time, i should double check everything, lots of small pieces and one long tube!
... was not aware of their poor service
i priced out 2 online dealers, the other one started upping the shipping at one point to more than $20 for many small items and the tube

Yeah, that’s what got me (decent prices) but as soon as it’s tallied up shipping can be insane. They just give you a email saying pay X amt and you do and you wait on tracking, and a week later you’re calling asking about confirmation of order. I payed and they buried my order and forgot about it, said there was none, Faack! I spent hours of my life calling because they didn’t respond to emails. Long story short Never Again, Sorry but no thanks Gunny. My dealership just hired some new guy he’s been acting like a true ass but finally became cool with me, I’ve only personally had a shop account with them for 25 years, sometimes I got screwed on price but now realize these Amazon and EBay parts don’t cut the mustard so I now realize why my shop always liked to replace with OE. Saving money on parts can sometimes be a double edged sword, I am getting to old to do a job twice anymore, now I buy once cry once. At least I don’t ever need a mechanic so I shouldn’t cry about shit, lol.

the picture is not the greatest, its a very overcast day & not much sunny shine
plus the LineX needs a real good scrubbn
but that is a powder coat hook in dark charcoal,

'97 rope hook powderCoat driver front.jpg

i may try to pick up some spare sets somewhere and get them in different colors
and have one naked that can be abused with heavy duty strappings / clamps on them
gotta keep em fresh is all i am thinking...

'97 rope hook powderCoat passenger front.jpg

... will see how they do this winter!

they were not easy to remove originally, these so far have been easy to take off with a simple screwdriver
maybe I am not torquing them down properly :notsure:
they do not seem to be loose or anything yet from vibration

    I felt inspired....

Used some leftover Duplicolor anthracite wheel paint.

I just need to hit them with some clear to protect the finish and reinstall.

did you have a difficult time removing them? looked a lot more weathered than mine did!
the newly finished one seems to sparkle and shine better than my powder coated ones

The paint I used does have a low key metal flake in it. I don’t expect the paint to be a forever solution due to wear and tear, but they already look a lot better than they did.

Fortunately, removal was not super difficult. I had removed them once before and used anti-sieze on the fasteners.

so you did not need a fancier tool than a standard hand screwdriver for removal?
i should anti-sieze mine before winter sets its foot down

Yep, standard Matco screwdriver did the trick. I consider myself lucky that the screws came out with relatively minor fuss. I would definitely encourage using a thread lubricant when reinstalling.

took one of these and a mini sledge to get them out, but i still got one bolt stuck and broke in there
this tool is on my :santa: list ... not sure why mine were so tight other than never being removed, it takes no effort now to get them back out
