RotoPAx Mounts

That's always how it is. I got tons I want to do, and keep finding more. Gettin another bed rail setup shipped as we speak.

WOW, there are some really nice rotopax setups on this forum. Great job guys. I'd like to mount either a two or four gallon rotopax fuel cell directly under my bed. I was tinkering around under my truck and noticed there are a few mounting spots under the bed. Has anyone had any experience with the rotopax lying flat (parallel to the ground)? any leaks? Id' really like to keep the unit out of my bed since all my camping crap goes there. Thanks

 

I have no experience with them laying flat, but I did see a good review on their site. A guy secured a few on the rack on his FJ and said they never leaked.

This is the exact capability I am looking for.

I just installed this bed rack and was planning to add rotopax on the driver side. Unfortunately, I just discovered this thread.

Now that I see yours, I should have considered both sides.

I honestly don't think you have enough tire shine. Does it bleed through the tires?

I've added a rear bumper since that pic and I'm right in the middle of installing my OME lift and All pro sliders.

Hopefully I'll have a updated pic up by tomorrow.

I've had these off road now on an extended trip with all containers full with no issues and really like how they facilitate keeping the cargo area clear.

Just thought I'd through my .02 in...

I have had a storage pax for about 2.5years and I admit they are great in their looks and ability to combine together. That being said the storage pax leeks like a coffee filter out here on the west coast - after a normal spring of rain the container had about 3.5IN of rain water in it Good thing I was testing it before using it for storage! As a result it currently sits in my garage.

The water and fuel canisters look awesome and so does the first aid/72 hour prep kit (which is what I was planning to buy next).

That being said if you live any sort of wet environment (like Vancouver), I am not so sure how they would hold up - I haven't bought anymore...

Maybe you need unobtainium threaded rod?

 

If my 20 gallons ever fall off my truck, I think I'll have a problem bigger than getting an unobtainium bolt!

 

Changing my order around, moving the gear off the rack and into the bed, No complaints about the Rotopax at all or where they were mounted, I want to carry more gas & water and well easier to put them where the recovery/med gear is and move the other stuff.


---Oh for the op that was looking at what lift I have it is a 3" Icon with Dakar Leafs in the back, ride great as I ordered the Icons with a heavier spring for the weight i was adding to the truck

can you show some detail on how/what mount you used to put it on the AP bed rack?

 

It's not an AP rack, although its similar.

It was locally fabbed in Las Cruces.

I used 1/2 x 3/4 round head bolts, with the head inside the rail and threaded shank facing inboard to the bed, secured with lock nuts.

The base of the rack is angle iron with holes drilled through it.

I had steel plate welded to the bedrack side bars, drilled holes in it to accomodate the Rotopax ATV mounts and attached the Rotopax containers to the ATV mount using Rotopax fasteners.

You can see the ATV plate bolted to the rack plate on the left side of the truck and just the bare plate on the right side of the truck.
