I've tried to contact rotopax with no luck, so figured I'd ask around here. Does anyone know if the little black pieces that join two 2 gallon packs are included when you purchase a 2 gallon pack? Is it actually needed? Pic for reference: The piece I'm referring to is visible on the blue/red combo and the white/red combo

I do not know, but I'm very impressed by the $5K in gas and water containers in that pic.

Seems like the white/blue and red/black combo is holding together just fine without them lol I'd want to attach them together like pictured to mount to my bedrack. I'd imagine between the way their designed to interlock plus the actual mount, they shouldn't go anywhere without the clips.

And you won't, get some nice RTIC 1 gallon water jugs that are like 17.00 right now on the sure and keep water that way.

Purchased beginning of 2018. I bought two 2 gallon blemished fuel tanks. If I recall correctly they each came with one clip each.

If anyone actually cares, I bought the 2 gallon gas and 2 gallon water cans off of Amazon, and each came with 1 clip!

I bought the 2 gallon water can on Amazon as well and it came with a clip. I bought it in January. However it looks like Rotopax does have a Gen2 version now that don't use the clip system at all, so if you are looking for the type that clip together make sure to get the Gen1 versions.

Hey, OP, if you want some and don't want to buy them, I have a set ill send to you. PM me and we will figure it out.

To answer your question, are they needed NO. When you lock them together, they bind/wedge enough that you don't need them, but that depends on how you plan to fasten them to the vehicle. They do, however, prevent the cans from untwisting. (This is pure speculation) but I think rotopax got away from these because they aren't exactly the toughest of materials and I can see how they would be brittle in the cold. Also, they can get lost very easily.

Thanks for the offer! Mine came with them so I'm not in need of them. Honestly, I'm debating changing the way I mounted them, so they're not twisted and attached together. I think mounting them in the same orientation, but about a 1/2" apart instead of linked together could resolve some possible future issues I'm starting to notice with the locks. The locks in the locking handles seize up so easily, and its starting to seem that if I ever needed my gas can, but my water can lock is jacked up, I'm screwed..

I did the exact same thing. I don't mount them together for simplicity. I have the mounts fixed to my bed rail system.
